Unit was absolutely stellar today
Also, Bryant Haines should be the frontrunner for back-to-back Broyles Awards. Indiana's defense continues to anchor this team's success. #iufb

Ryan Kelly loved his time in Minnesota. He loved his neighbors. He loved his teammates. He loved the way Kevin O’Connell and the Vikings’ org supported him. This is a story about the toll concussions take, and why it’s so simultaneously hard to let go: nytimes.com/athletic/7711615…

The Knicks' assistant coaches did not receive their championship rings during Tuesday's ceremony, despite being handed ring boxes, according to league sources. Many longtime employees at Madison Square Garden will not receive rings at all, per team sources. Those employees got their hopes up in late September, when they were sent a fake championship ring offer as part of a phishing test. nyti.ms/4jB0yvR

Edge absolutely rules and this city is lucky to get to claim him as one of their own.
Edgerrin James says that he used his first NFL signing bonus to buy two rundown buildings in a drug-affected neighborhood in his hometown and turn them into a recreational center for local kids “I mean, it’s appropriate. You know, them things you’re supposed to do. That’s your way of really giving back and helping and showing. You can help a lot of people by making one move. One move can change the structure of so many other kids. Like right now, from Immokalee, we got four guys that’s in the NFL right now, and those same four guys used to come to that same building that we opened up and that we had around. And it was actually pretty cool to actually see that, you know, they were a part of it.” “Exactly. And that’s what it’s about. You’re showing them that it’s possible, and that’s part of my whole MO, man. Like, look, I’m going to come across as normal, and I’m going to do all the same things y’all do. So I’m showing you that it’s possible. Right now, you got to dig into it a little bit more to say, ‘Okay, what separated me from them?’ And that’s when that discipline and that hard work and really knowing what it’s going to take, or doing what it’s going to take, to get there.” “Yeah, you got D.J. Swearinger, you got Mackensie Alexander, you got D’Ernest Johnson that played for the Cleveland Browns, and then you got the Pro Bowler, J.C., that played for the New England Patriots. You know, all four of those kids, they used to be around. They’re all out of Immokalee, and that’s what it’s about. To have kids that’s in the community that actually see you do what you do, and they follow in those footsteps.” “I got a million names from them. They actually make you feel old. Like, they really the ones that make you feel old. And then you go back, you go through some of the pictures, and you see the kids out there doing what they were doing. Like, dang, I’ve really been around a long time. And to see J.C. go to the Pro Bowl, you’re like, man, I watched this kid from birth. But it’s a good feeling to know that you got people coming from your area that you inspired.”

It would not surprise me if Carlie Irsay-Gordon and the Colts are looking at non-traditional leadership structures that are similar to a couple successful teams (and successful roster overhauls). Some very early thoughts on the upcoming GM search: nytimes.com/athletic/7707253…

From yesterday, on the end of the Chris Ballard era. The quotes that aged poorly. The moves that busted. The promise that never delivered 👇🏼
A sorry era for this franchise is over, one that became mind-numbingly stale and sucked the life out of the fanbase. Chris Ballard's tenure started with promise. In the end, it never delivered. Column from me, free to read: nytimes.com/athletic/7704955…

"The cool thing about our defense is it morphs from week to week — series to series, really." Good look at the NFL's biggest disruptor, Brian Flores, who also happens to be, at the moment, the NFL's best coordinator, via @MikeSilver nytimes.com/athletic/7705340…

I know it's easy to dance on someone's grave after they're fired. Carlie had more than enough justification to make this call. But it doesn't change the good Chris Ballard and his family did off the field here, and the 100s of foster children they helped nytimes.com/athletic/1311425…

Just an utterly inexcusable loss. At home. To a winless team. With a double-digit lead at halftime. In a season where "the urgency has never been higher."
