I have been dreaming with @cyantist about turning San Francisco into a playground of experiences that create joy.
Meow Wolf meets Disneyland, with the soul of summer camp.
We call it JoyCon. The first experiment is in January. Limited tickets 🚀.

A glimpse at our Weird Hobby Night I (in SF)
@cyantist led a game of Mafia w/ homemade cards (Gods & Mortals)
@snowmaker taught juggling sticks
@nealstephenson shared his knowledge of swordfighting (brought his own swords)
I facilitated a stonefruit omakase
Hobbies are magic.

Everyone has their own version of their "dream."
What a privilege it is to get to collaborate with them on bringing it to life.
Don't let your dreams be dreams.
when the magically weird collides with ambitious, radical action, you get the kind of improbable ideas that built san francisco
that spirit was on full display as we hosted an evening alongside @LongJourneyVC
@cyantist and @LeeJacobs shared their investment theses and why backing ideas others dismiss as weird can be a source of alpha

Two years ago, fresh in SF, I met @Noahpinion.
We’ve talked about everything from defense tech to weeb culture and street fashion to Japan's economic policy ever since.
Now we get to build with Japan together.
Welcome to Coral, Noah!

Do you want to make your office beautiful? I'm building a roster of amazing muralists who can come in and paint your walls.
One second order effect of watching “You Can See Everything.”
I have been using my BabyBjorn Bouncer Bliss at lot more for childcare and also feel a lot less worried about how hard my bounces are.
I know there are parents who observed this.
Last night @growing_daniel built one of the best experiences I have had all year. These are the only photos I have.
He screened “You Can See Everything” and did 2 simple things:
1) Phones were sealed in security bags at the beginning. The 30 minutes before screening were electric, people all talking, laughing, present
2) Every event is a magic trick, and every magic trick needs a prestige. His: a surprise, off the record Q&A after a 3 hour movie. 99% of the room stayed. The guest had been sitting in the dark watching it with us the whole time, and the conversation felt like the sequel dropping the second the credits rolled. @cyantist and I kept turning to each other like, "is this the Truman Show??"
Magic is magic. 🪄 bravo.
PS Daniel of course would staff his own event and put wrist bands on everyone.
Experiences should feel like art
Replying to @zmwang @growing_daniel
This event itself was literally a work of art. It added a creative layer to the film.

This. This exactly.
In my first 3 weeks in SF, I’ll have cohosted 4 salons, from arts and culture funding to modern love. I love bringing people together to talk about things we care about and it feels especially magical to do it here :’)
Turns out the more you host things and talk about what you love, the more people invite you into their own little worlds, introduce you to people they think you’d love, and pull you into conversations you never knew were happening. A lovely compounding effect of doing things just for the joy of hanging out and curiosity!!
Asado success. Hanging tomahawk steaks and smoked pineapples make people very happy.
We were surprised by gourmet hot dogs from Mark's Meats (thank you @finkd). Yum.
SF needs more themed BBQs.
UP NEXT: a Chinese-style BBQ (char siu, roast duck)
Comment 👇 should we make?
We smuggled an Argentine parrilla onto our patio for an asado with our SF community. It didn’t fit through the front door, so we got creative with a ladder and some muscle.
First time cooking steak and pineapple hanging over an open fire. I'm giddy like a kid at Disney.
What I love about asados is that they’re a weekly anchor, usually Sundays in Argentina with family and friends. They create sapce to keep relationships going in a way one-off dinners don’t. Kind of like the Shabbat dinners SF tech has rediscovered :)
My most moving asado memories are from Buenos Aires, where complete strangers invited me into their homes, cooked for me all afternoon, and treated me like family. An OG recipe for connection.
Cyan is both village elder and village kid in a playground.
Join us for After Hours 10.
If you’re building something no one understands yet, you might be onto something nobody else sees.
If that resonates, come join our next After Hours @LongJourneyVC: late-night coworking with the magically weird humans in our community.
