Let me make this clear. I do not support police brutality or extortion in any form.
However, if I must speak publicly about an allegation, particularly one involving a government official, I believe there should be credible evidence to substantiate it. I cannot, in good conscience, publicly accuse an official without having facts to back up my claims.
Wallahi, I have never personally experienced police extortion. The closest experience I have had was on my way to Malete. I was watching a movie on my phone when a police officer suspected that I was recording him. He demanded my phone rudely, and I hesitated Before I eventually showed his superior officer.
That said, the fact that some people are silent about police brutality does not automatically mean they support it.
Some may have experienced it but lack the evidence to substantiate their claims publicly, others may simply be unwilling to make allegations they cannot independently establish.
As the law rightly recognises, he who asserts must prove. The burden of proof generally rests on the person who asserts a fact.
