Hard to recognize him without a full mustache. This was March 22, 1985. Richie, just a freshman, scored 21 to lead all scorers in a quarterfinal win over Metcalfe Co at the state tournament. It was the first time Bobby Keith ever got the Clay Co boys to the semifinals.

@13thRegionHist Former Wallins basketball star passed away recently at a Louisville hospital. He was laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery. He was employed with Fischer Meats for 37 years. His acts of love and kindness toward others will be truly missed.

@13thRegionHist R.I.P. Uncle Charles "Chick" Arrington. One of the best players in the mountains he led the '47-48 Wallins Purple Devils with 18.1 PPG. Adolph Rupp called him one of the best shooters he had seen. A serious leg defect kept Chick from continuing his career.
Maybe it wasn't a good idea for local radio when we sold all our radio stations to one company. Now they are all getting laid off. You're local @iHeartRadio is done. Get ready for national programming unconnected to your community.

What a special honor it was to be inducted into the 13th Region Hall of Fame this evening.... To be included with this list of inductees is humbling to say the least—My favorite of which was my dad. Hats off to all who put this together!

Two of the best I learned from. We all grew up with 10 minutes of each other. 3 SEC guards in 13th Region HOF. On my right Terry Mills, on my left Larry Pursiful. Told them I wouldn’t have worn my T if they hadn’t worn their UK. #wellmaybeimtellingafib

We forgot to announce Lynn CamO has been accepted by the @17thRegion board of control. However, we are deeply disappointed it is, not, in fact, wearing camo.
A rare photo. That's Richie going up for a dunk on his homemade mountainside goal with his daddy looking on back in 1988. Wow.

It's been 31 years exactly . . .since Clay County legend Bobby Keith got arrested during the middle of a game at the WYMT Mountain Classic in Hindman. DURING. THE. GAME. I kid you not. Here's the story I wrote a year ago. It's a good one.
The Bobby Keith Arrest -- January 31, 1988 -- Knott County -- Semifinals of the prestigious WYMT Mountain Classic. Here's one you might not have heard much about if any at all. And it went down this week . . .30 years ago. Follow the thread . . . (Richie on the move)
Probably the greatest photograph taken in the history of Kentucky high school sports. The 1956 state semifinals at Memorial Coliseum. Carr Creek-Wayland. A snapshot to another time.

It was 1944 and Harlan's Wah Wah Jones was the top pick on the All State team, appearing on 64% of the ballots. Ralph Beard at 39% was second and Don Sparka from Dayton was third. Here's the full list. That's 75 seasons ago.

Greg Page in uniform in '64 for Middlesboro. That year the Yellow Jackets were 8-1-1 (beat Corbin for the first time in 10 years) and were SEKC champs. Page, an integration of the SEC, died of injuries suffered in a freak practice accident while playing for UK in '67.

So proud of my high school alma mater @WiSDJackets. All A regional champs in girls’ basketball, softball, and now baseball. Throw in a district football title and it’s a great 2017-18 so far for the Big Orange. #JacketForLife
It's Bobby Keith Day around here. In Clay Co, that's everyday. Bobby won a state title on this date in 1987, Clay Co defeating Ballard 76-73 in OT. Richie finished with 27 points. Here's how they remembered Bobby in the school yearbook that year and the final game boxscore.

Clay Co. had beaten us 90-54 and 87-54 during the regular season. Our kids did a great job of doing what we had to do to give ourselves a chance to win. Our leading scorer didn’t even attempt a shot that night.
