I'm happy to share our latest work on challenges and opportunities of hybrid conferences! biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… Main message: more work to organize, but more flexibility for participants and overall decreased #carbon #footprint. Will hybrid meetings be the new normal? @16dsbs

Had the pleasure of convening this round-table discussion to close out @16dsbs! The UN's BBNJ treaty, if done well, will aid scientists in their work, expand the community of deep-sea scientists, and make the most of scientific knowledge for effective management - a triple win.
2/3 of the ocean are considered high seas, but only 1% are currently protected. During today's final session @16dsbs, "What the UN's Treaty on Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) Means for Deep-Sea Science," we heard multiple perspectives on challenges/opportunities
