Repost from @22Matters. If this was a law in New Jersey in 2018... I wouldn’t have had to watch my daughter Valentina Marie die in my arms as the hospital I delivered at refuse to provide life saving measures as she was a couple days shy away from 23 weeks.

Very cool. We are working with a mama who had her baby at 21 weeks. 10.5 ounces at birth. 8 inches long. She’s still with us and fighting! ❤️❤️

This brought tears to my eyes.
My baby was born at 1lb 4oz only. She is now 6 years old. Some of the Drs. tried to tell me they didn’t have tubes that small for her, we said you better find some...
This truly should be counted as murder to not intervene medically.

PPROM (preterm premature rupture of membranes) isn’t an automatic death sentence for the baby. But fixing fetal membranes after a PPROM??? That would be absolutely amazing.
This week is #BabyLossAwarenessWeek.
#PPROM is a major cause of #pretermbirth and can lead to early infant death. @QMUL and @UCL researchers have discovered a new #bioengineering approach to fix fetal membranes that rupture and improve outcomes- qmul.ac.uk/media/news/2020/s… #BLAW2020

Yes some hospitals only have a level 1 or 2 NICU, but those nurses should be STABLE and NRP certified so they can stabilize the baby for transport to a level 3 or 4 NICU.

Average survival rate of 22 weekers is >30% (some NICU’s >50%).
Average survival rate of 23 weekers is > 50% (some NICU’s >75%).

This has to change. Using this data this way is a gross misrepresentation of what it really means and it breaks my heart that parents are using it to make life and death decisions not knowing what it really means. Rant over. – at Alabama, USA

They will quote that 12% survival statistic. Please note that is WITHOUT ACTIVE TREATMENT. Then they will say there is up to a 78% chance of moderate to severe NDI. Sounds scary, right? But all that really means is a Bayley score under 85.... – at Alabama, USA

So let’s just play with some data. Let’s say you are 22 weeks pregnant with a girl. You have time to receive steroids. There is a 32% average chance of survival with only 5-11% chance of PROFOUND NDI. But what will drs quote? – at Alabama, USA

Alright so my 26 weeker took his Bayley test today. And the fact that a cognitive score under 85 on this test is considered a “moderate to severe” NDI is INSANE y’all. INSANE. This is about to be a whole thread so stay with me. – at Alabama, USA

Alveoli starts developing before 22 weeks. Babies are born everyday at 22 weeks and surviving. Many 22 weekers are actually taking breaths and can cry at birth. Additionally these moms can be given steroids before birth which helps the baby by speeding up the lung maturation.
