A few hours before Cookie passed, I took him to every corner of the house.
We spent extra time by the piano. He put his head down on the keyboard & I told him I love him.
For those who don't know, Kiki was an avid singer when he was young. He stopped singing about 3 years ago.

Hard to believe this was exactly seven years ago today - my sweetest angels, Cookie and Muffin, occupying the bed.
At first, it feels as though I only saw this photo yesterday.
I clicked on it and zoomed in as close as I possibly could, just to see the eyes of my sweetest babies.
Then I found myself wanting to see their faces, their ears, their noses, their paws, and every single part of their bodies. Those precious bodies I used to hold tightly and cuddle with. Bodies that were once healthy, full of life, and strong enough to jump onto the bed.
But no matter how long you stare at an old photograph, eventually, you have to return to reality...…
Whether or not you are willing to accept that reality makes no difference.
Today, it took me a little longer than usual to pull myself away from that photograph and come back to the present.
For a little while, I just wanted to stay there - with my babies, in a moment when they were still here with me.

I just learned that the Day of the Dead for Pets is “celebrated” on October 27.
Día de Muertos para Mascotas originated in Mexico as a way to honor and remember beloved pets who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Personally, I don't need a designated day once a year to remind me that my babies are no longer here with me. Their absence is something I live with every single day.
Their leashes are still hanging by the door between the kitchen and the garage. All the sweaters, scarves, and bandanas I made for them are still tucked away in the same drawers. Two of their beds are still in the kitchen. And their shampoo and toothpaste are still sitting by the sink.
