In the past we've promoted an intro lesson for quadratic functions where students contrast examples of quadratics w/ non-examples. twominuteteachersguide.com/2…
Today at #moctm19 (11:00am Polo Room) we share the general process for creating engaging sets of examples and non-examples.

My understanding of the slope of a line got so much better when I realised it was a multiplier rather than just a random number produced by a division.
That is, it's not so much that
[slope] = (change in y) / (change in x)
but that
(change in y) = [slope] * (change in x).
If you're teaching systems of equations, having students choose the equations that go into each system can help reveal how they're looking at equations and empower them as they practice solving. #Algebra

There's power in viewing problems two-at-a-time instead of always one-at-a-time. This is an example: xitter.cf/mathsjem/status/129251…
This approach can also be taken in general when going over homework. See @2minteachguide.
Spotted this in an old textbook. I like the way it presents the problems in pairs: one with numbers, one with algebra. I've done this in class discussion before but not as an exercise. Anyway, I made a similar task in case anyone wants to borrow/adapt: tes.com/teaching-resource/in…
