This trader won't stop buying $MEME despite -58% losses. According to data from Lookonchain, one trader is now the largest holder of @memecoin having spent $1.22M to buy $MEME over the last month. They are now down roughly -58% ($708,000) on their holdings, but were still buying late last night. Do they know something we don't?!

🕳️ I asked Claude today to scan all 10,000 CENTS to count how many had quietly slipped out of circulation. I expected 5. We found 25 🤯 – some frozen for nearly two years, inside the cold storage of Kraken, Fidelity and Coinbase Prime. Patient zero: a matched pair of 1971 pennies, #467 and #1920 – sold in March 2024, swept into a whale’s 199 BTC wallet six months later, untouched since. Two 1971s, were the first CENTS the chain swallowed. What an irony! 🙈 None of these wallets know they hold art. Exchanges and custodians see only fungible BTC, never the inscription on a particular sat – so CENTS ride out as loose change and freeze.

wild Bitcoin forensics 🕵️‍♀️ this is a tale of tracking down and cataloging Cent sats that have been "trapped" in payment UTXOs and of a new layer of presence on cents vision
New on cents-vision: The Void – a new home for the CENTS that get swallowed by the machine. It started with a false alarm. I run a small on-chain detector that watches every CENT change hands and catches the sales the marketplaces miss – offer-accepts and cross-platform trades that never show up in any feed. Yesterday afternoon it flagged a „sale” for nearly 100 BTC. Nobody pays 100 BTC for a handful of CENTS (yet! 😜), so instead of trusting it, we opened the transaction. It wasn’t a sale at all. It was five Cents – #20, #60, #1859, #7061 and #8086 – being swallowed whole by an exchange. The transaction moved 578 BTC across three inputs and nineteen outputs, with not a single inscription-safe output among them: a major exchange sweeping its own wallets, and five Cents just riding along in the sats it happened to spend. Collateral! We followed them. All five landed together in one 300 BTC cold-storage output, and the inputs traced back to a hot wallet that has cycled more than 780,000 BTC in its lifetime – a top-tier exchange. Somewhere upstream a collector had deposited these coins, and „the machine” simply ate them. They are not lost. They sit in that wallet, fully intact and fully spendable – by an exchange that has no idea it is holding a piece of the collection. But they cannot be listed, cannot be traded, and cannot move on their own. They have been cancelled out of circulation. I started calling that state „voided“ – present on-chain, but null in practice. The real danger is the next move. The day that big output is spent by a wallet with no regard for inscriptions, a CENT could leave as change to a random withdrawal – and that is how ordinals actually die. For now these five are simply benched: about 0.05 % of the whole collection, frozen in place. So we built them a home. „The Void” is a new page that collects every Cent this happens to. For each one it shows the wallet now holding it, the size of the UTXO it is trapped in, the transaction that took it there, and the date it slipped in – every detail linking out to mempool so you can verify each step yourself. A matching Voided badge now appears on the Cents’s detail page. The new tool finds them on its own. A Cent whose holding output is bundled with real Bitcoin (0.01 BTC or more) is not being held as a collectible, and the detector flags it automatically; a weekly scan keeps the page current. Each voided Cent carries one of three states – voided while it is trapped, escaped if it ever returns to a normal wallet, and consumed if it is spent away for good – so if one of these five ever claws its way back out, the Void will be the first to show it and I will definitely let you know if that ever happens …

CENTS isn’t just „the BTC Squiggles”, it’s a work that contains Squiggles’ entire mode (rule-governed generation) as one layer, then adds years of physical indexicality on top. The market hasn’t priced in that Rutherford has woven into CENTS the hard, slow thing algorithmic art can’t fake: TIME That’s exactly what makes it the natural on-ramp for fine art collectors into crypto, it speaks their language (readymade, indexicality, durational practice) and only asks them to accept the chain. >> Bright CENTS future ahead!
How CENTS could 50-100x: Simple. As the leading 10k fine art collection on BTC, CENTS is currently priced at 1/20th the leading 10k ETH art collection (Squiggles) If a CENT -> 1/2 the price of a Chromie Squiggle, and Squiggles 5-10x in price in the next bull market... DYOR

dear CENTS collectors, just heard from Satflow that they "don't have the capability" to include a royalty functionality AT ALL. Enough is enough. If you care even a little bit about this project, about its presence in the world, its longevity, then move your old ME listings to @trygamma. It's an important time with ME shutting down, and it matters what you do. It matters what place becomes the next hub for trading. This was a free mint (1 sat for 1 Cent) and we've busted our assess for the last two mfing years to represent it and maintain it as it deserves, from the timeline, to the conferences, to the trait sites, to the community, to the museums. The 2.5% isn't a lot, but it does mean a lot. I hope you can put yourself in our shoes and realize that it truly matters, especially at this critical time. Please help to share this. long live CENTS 👊

coming soon: 👊 rarity rankings 👊 marketplace integration amazing work laying the ground for all of this by Martin, Pac, the Trait Council & the CENTS community
Nice update on cents.vision 👇🏼 Trait ranking logic on detail page is now improved: we grouped all patinas above the other community traits and ordered from full to significant to notable (so the list is consistent and meaningful now). Orange ranks between significant and Notable. Maybe you will have to empty your browser cache and reload to see the change. Shoutout to @pactalom for implementing. 🥳

Rutherford Chang originally sold this photo of a single Cent for 1 sat. It was just resold on secondary for 0.1 BTC, a 10,000,000% appreciation. Yes, this picture of a Cent just sold for 690,000 actual cents. Noice

If you don’t grasp the significance of CENTS in Bitcoin’s history, you don’t understand why Bitcoin exists. The earlier you recognize its importance, the more you stand to benefit financially, just as early Bitcoiners did.

Rutherford Chang: Hundreds and Thousands opens this Saturday at UCCA Beijing, China's leading contemporary art institution a retrospective of Chang's major works, curated by Philip Tinari and Aki Sassamoto. The exhibition occurs during the anniversary of Rutherford Chang's passing, and it is heartening to see his legacy honored with care and grace. We are also proud to see Bitcoin Art presented at this high cultural level with CENTS. Find details from UCCA below. We will be sharing images from Beijing in the coming days. Look out as well for an article in @BitcoinMagazine by @stenreiss about Rutherford Chang's art and practice. And a new Trait Explorer will be released in tandem with the opening, featuring a comprehensive catalog of the patinas, markings, and special features of the Cents, as well as a guide to the collection and critical writing.

Coming soon: The Traits Atlas Codebook, Minimums, Exceptions Excerpt from the introduction to „Contaminated”: How we name what we can’t test: The Contaminated trait is built as a practice of surface-reading. We don’t scrape, dissolve, or assay; we study photographs, compare against known material behaviors, and look for repeatable cues across many coins. A residue becomes legible through its grammar: adhesive tends to form films and „ghost rectangles”; paint sits as chromatic layer; salt crystallizes in blooms; grime dulls and embeds; tar-like deposits build relief. The subtrait names are therefore not claims of chemistry, but field names – tools for seeing. Why it’s hard (and why that matters): On copper, different substances age toward the same visual end: yellowing films, darkened veils, granular crusts. Light, camera processing, and abrasion can flip a read from „glue” to „varnish,” from „salt” to „verdigris-adjacent.” Some coins carry mixtures and sequences: spill >> handling >> dust – so the surface becomes stratigraphic: layered like a tiny archaeological record, where one contact event settles over another. In these cases, we chooses clarity over certainty: we classify by what is materially present as residue and how it behaves, while keeping space for the unknown. Consensus by surface-reading (the „Swiss woodworkers” debate): Some contaminations only became legible through collective scrutiny. The first glue-coated Cents were met with skepticism, so we turned outward: a Swiss woodworkers’ forum examined the photographs, debating sheen, thickness, edges, and failure patterns – arguing, as craftsmen do, over which glue this could be. Those screenshots, carried back into the Traits Council, shifted the claim from intuition to shared evidence, and Glue became an approved subtrait.
