ALT Rest In Power Sonya Massey. She should be with us today. The senseless murder of Sonya Massey in the US has led to a communal sense of grief for Black communities across the globe. Sonya Massey called the police for help because she thought there was an intruder in her home. When the police arrived, Sonya asked them not to hurt her, yet the interaction resulted in Deputy Sean Grayson shooting and killing her.

ALT We cannot rely on a system that is not designed to keep us safe. Sonya was a beloved mother, daughter, and sister whose life was stolen by police violence. We demand justice and accountability for her death. The officers involved must be held responsible. We know that police killings are not simply due to a few bad officers; Sean Grayson’s actions represent exactly what policing is designed to do: to harm, oppress, and inflict violence upon our communities.
