JUST IN: Another lawsuit has been filed in the battle over CA's Proposition 39 -- the Voter ID initiative by Asm. @carldemaio and @SenStricklandCA This time, the No on Prop. 39 side has filed a lawsuit, led by Senate President Pro Tem @MoniqueLimonCA and Assembly Speaker @CASpeakerRivas (as individuals, not in their legislative capacity) They're challenging the language of the ballot measure, arguing the description of the initiative is "misleading and false." “Prop 39 is a tool to suppress voter turnout, plain and simple," the two Democratic leaders said in a joint statement. The lawsuit specifically notes proponents' claims that "voter ID makes it easier to vote" and "Prop. 39 saves money" are inaccurate. Waiting to get reaction from the ballot measure proponents... Earlier this week, the Yes on Prop. 39 side sued @AGRobBonta, arguing the AG had unlawfully revised the ballot title and summary into an inaccurate description. They accused Bonta of politicizing the language, though the AG has countered all nine voter-proposed initiatives received revised ballot titles and summaries The lawsuit asks a judge to expedite the case in hopes of changing the ballot language before it is finalized (deadline is August 10)
