Criminology has spent decades warning us about the dangers of labeling offenders. Yet the same discipline seems remarkably comfortable with sweeping, stigmatizing descriptions of police officers. Hypocrisy, me thinks. Here's full link (two pages). f5df248f-83fd-49b2-8259-19d8…
Get thee to a current copy of @ACJS_Today. @Jerry_Ratcliffe has a delicious take on the duplicitous application of language policing over at Criminology. If this pilot thing doesn't work out, he's got a real future with satire.

Congratulations to my mate and colleague Anthony Braga for deservedly winning the 2026 Stockholm Prize in Criminology with David Kennedy. If you don’t know why, read his book with Phil Cook. Smart, thoughtful, realistic.

New article, free download, slightly controversial? Police stops nearly always exhibit racial disparity, compared to citywide population. But what if you use a denominator that better reflects actual police work? Then it get's interesting... link.springer.com/article/10… 1/2

Ron Clarke was one of the most influential criminologists of our time. He was also a valuable mentor to all of the students fortunate to cross paths with him at Rutgers. I will always remember how kind and supportive he was to me. He will be missed. linkedin.com/posts/nancylavi…

It was a huge oversight (as many in policing said at the time) for the government to increase police numbers by 20,000 without increasing the number of support staff (particularly analysts) at the same time. More well-trained analysts would still be a very good investment now.

#CrimTwitter Consider a network in which the basic element is cliques rather than nodes (e.g. police files identifying all members of a criminal network, but not specifying relations between them). How would you advise to analyze the data? Found this: sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
