Math is wild. You can totally perplex a kid using nothing more than paper and a few pen strokes. teapawt.net/StudyMaths/status/1539…
Still by far one of my favorite “teacher” books! Everyone should read this book!

Mathematics has beauty and romance. It's not a boring place to be, the mathematical world. It's an extraordinary place; it's worth spending time there. ~Marcus du Sautoy
I cringe at my early years and the affect I likely had on some of my students. Reflection is a key component of my practice and always will be! Even 17 years in, some ideas fall flat and some days could go better!!
What!?
BREAKING: Mathematicians have found an exact fraction that equals Pi, thereby disproving the long-standing conjecture that Pi is irrational. We now know that π = 1783366216531/567663097408. Learn more at math.fit/pi-fraction

Gather more evidence of learning than you need. Don’t grade it all. Save some for backups, as needed.
We make missing assignments a bigger deal than they should be.
They indicate a barrier, either behavioral or circumstances.
They don’t indicate any level of learning.

Wow! This warms my heart! Today I am feeling so grateful for my own amazing students but didn’t communicate it to all of their parents! I just learned how to be a better teacher from this man! What an amazing email to get from a teacher!!

If we employed a 4.0 GPA grading system but based it on our 100 point numeric system, students who did not submit assignments would be given a negative six.
Our 100 point scale is archaic. Recording a zero on a 100 point scale for a missed assignment makes no educational sense.
Is there a way to give feedback on @Nearpod slides/activities? That would be helpful for my Learn From Home students working on student-paced lessons.

On November 7th, 2018 we tragically lost 12 members of our Thousand Oaks community, including Cal Lutheran alumnus Justin Meek, in a senseless act of violence at Borderline. Today, we remember those we lost and honor the many survivors in our community. 💛 #BorderlineStrong
