Hopefully this continues until there is no more refining capacity left in Russia. So much for Putinโ€™s attempt to get Trump to stop this with bluster
Continuing to burn throughout the day, Russia's 11 syllabled LUKOIL-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery - the 2nd largest gasoline producer in the country - now confirmed to be totally out of commission, having suffered precision strikes in its key processing units. With the US no longer standing in the way, Putin's oil industry is doomed.

When it comes to financial matters on @GBNEWS @LiamHalligan is the ONE person I'll sit and listen too, hugely talented and @dailytelegraph loss!
I was hoping to be able to announce this in my own time โ€“ but the media rumour mill is swirling, I'm being contacted by various reporters and others, and I don't like denying the truth, so ... I wrote my first "Economic Agenda" column in The Sunday Telegraph 27 years ago, under the editorship of Dominic Lawson โ€“ filling-in occasionally during the late-1990s, before being given my own weekly slot from 2003. Since then, while I've been heavily involved in television, and am perhaps better known as a broadcaster, penning "Economic Agenda" for The Sunday Telegraph each week has been the backbone of my journalistic life. On Thursday, the @Telegraph rang to tell me my column is being scrapped. I was asked, and have agreed, to write "Economic Agenda" until the end of November, as per my contract. After that, my Sunday Telegraph column will be no more. Why this decision has been made, and whether or not my columns were any good, is for others to judge. All I will say is that, as the first person in my family to attend university, sustaining a weekly column in a leading national newspaper for a quarter of a century has been a source of enormous pride for myself and my family. Lots of people have been asking me about the future of "Planet Normal" - the hugely-popular Telegraph podcast which I co-created and co-present with the brilliant @AllisonPearson "Planet Normal" has, over the last 330 weekly episodes, also become a major part of my professional life and my broader identity. With Allison reportedly leaving the Telegraph as well, there is a lot of speculation about whether or not the podcast will continue to impart "news and views from beyond the bubble" with our usual blend of sharp analysis, humour and occasional outrage ! Well, I am delighted to confirm that Co-Pilot Pearson and myself are deeply committed to our joint podcast โ€“ and, above all, to our beloved listeners. We will, as and when notice periods allow, continue our voyages through space every Thursday โ€“ perhaps to "Planet Normal", or maybe to another part of the solar system โ€“ so we can "gaze down each week at the madness of Planet Earth", as we have done since the Spring of 2020. So citizens of Planet Normal, stand ready ! The "rocket-of-right-thinking", the "flying refuge of reasoned views", will soon be launched once again ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿช๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ๐Ÿ‘ฑโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ๐Ÿ“บ I poured my heart and soul into "Economic Agenda" and "Planet Normal". The Telegraph's decision to scrap them is obviously a huge personal blow. But I will always be grateful for the opportunities the paper has given me. Above all, I would like to thank the illustrious list of successive Telegraph business editors I've worked with since the late-1990s, many of whom have become and remain good friends - including @Peston @RobertsDan @larmitstead @neilbenet @benjaminmarlow @cg_williams @kamalahmednews @MarkKleinmanSky @jamesrquinn (sorry if I've forgotten anyone, it's been a long time!) On Friday, even though I almost always write my column from elsewhere, and despite being extremely disappointed by the paper's decision, I decided to go into the Telegraph and write today's column sitting in the newsroom. I am glad I did - as being at the heart of the paper at such a difficult time allowed for lots of conversations, with everyone from junior production staff to senior reporters and executives, which reminded me that journalism, despite being an industry at the whim of seemingly endless and often brutal commercial and technological upheaval, is not only hugely important to our country, but full of talented, decent people. See picture below, having just filed my piece, as I was heading out the door ...

Russia accuses Ukraine of striking refinery msn.com/en-gb/news/other/rusโ€ฆ Well of course Ukraine did it because Russia invaded Ukraine and murdered it's civilians. Russia is run by war criminals. So Fascist Putin lies because Ukraine was a country while Russia was a swamp.

The United States has invited a known war criminal into its country. One does wonder what the ordinary folk who believe in freedom and democracy think about hosting Lavrov from a regime that murders innocent Ukrainian children everyday?

Blair was evil but very clever and set the UK up for left wing control irrespective of who was in government! He set up quangos and infected every institution that drives political policy with left wing ideologues so nothing changed. When the Tories took over it was merely a baton pass with very little change of direction. This is why the establishment is terrified of Reform as they will change everything.
Yes I did. I was born in the 80s. The optimism was because the nation hadnโ€™t yet felt the effects of Blairโ€™s immigration nightmare Britain was still Britain. His immigration policies consigned the nation to the precipice of unrecognisable change 20 years later. But you wanna celebrate some GDP figures and Brit Pop. Jesus.

The United Nations was established after World War II with a clear mandate: resolve international conflicts and prevent wars. Yet when major geopolitical flashpoints ignite, the UN is usually absent. This is not an operational oversight; it is a structural defect built directly into the Security Council veto. Because any permanent member or key ally can block resolutions, the UNโ€™s core peacekeeping mandate remains eternally gridlocked when and where it matters most. Unable to fulfill its primary objective, the UN has turned inward to survive - a classic case of institutional mission creep. Today, it has morphed into one of the largest bureaucratic apparatuses in world history, absorbing $68 to $74 billion annually. This includes $5.1 to $5.4 billion for peacekeeping operations and $3.5 to $3.7 billion to maintain a workforce of up to 190,000 personnel. The UN also operates in isolation from ordinary economic reality. Under the 1946 Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, its staff enjoy lifelong exemptions from national income taxes on their salaries. Meanwhile, the taxpayers funding this system face escalating tax burdens driven by UN-backed climate and economic policies. By transferring its focus away from war prevention, the UN has redirected its authority toward climate regulation and managing migration flows. Treaties like the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change operate unhindered by Security Council vetoes. This allows unelected officials to manage vast financial mechanisms - including carbon credit registries and the Green Climate Fund - with minimal accountability. In practice, these strict carbon emissions targets penalise Western industry while competitors like China and India expand heavy production under developing-nation exemptions. This is global wealth redistribution under the banner of environmental stewardship. A similar pattern governs the UNโ€™s humanitarian aid for mainly illegal migrants. Initiatives like the Global Compact for Migration institutionalise and facilitate mass population flows, which erode national sovereignty. Unable to stop war, the UNโ€™s survival now depends on fabricating fresh mandates. It has traded its original peacekeepers purpose for climate control and migration management. What's next?

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง๐ŸŒน THE FALKLANDS 255 โ€“ FOREVER REMEMBERED. 255 British servicemen who never came home from the Falklands War in 1982. Not just a number. They were sons, husbands, fathers, brothers and mates. They sailed thousands of miles from home, leaving behind families who prayed for their safe return. For 255 families, that reunion never came. Their courage, sacrifice and the lives they never got to live must never be forgotten. Different uniforms. Different services. One shared sacrifice. ๐ŸŒน Stand easy, lads.
