Did you know that Stringer Bell’s obsession with macroeconomics and community college business courses wasn't just a clever Hollywood plotline?
Stringer character was heavily based on Lamont "Chin" Farmer, the real-life, studious mastermind of Baltimore's 1980s heroin trade.
While running the day to day operations for Melvin Williams' empire(Avon), Farmer completely despised the loud, over the top gangster tropes. Instead, he brought an MBA level mindset to the West Side, actually taking economics and business classes to apply corporate discipline directly to the streets.
He even owned a copy and print shop to serve as a legitimate front business!
Farmer was a quiet, incredibly shrewd strategist who completely revolutionized street communications.
He designed the complex pager and payphone communication code that took the Baltimore Police Department nearly four years of analytics to crack.
When you watch Stringer tell D crew to leave that "corner bullshit" out of the copy shop, you're looking at history.
