Shopping at my neighborhood Aldi at 30th and Sorensen and the Florence Farmers Market yesterday. Met a young family; Mom, Dad and young kid. Mom told me that two years ago she was shot -multiple times -while protecting her husband from a gunman in Douglas County. Little did the gunman know, Mom was carrying her own gun and sprung into action to protect her husband from assailants who were attacking him. Moral of the story: Don’t mess with a momma bear. 👩🐻

I have consistently warned about the risk of repeat offenders and our revolving door mental health crisis which is a direct result of a lack of acute, secure behavioral health infrastructure. This terrifying image is a tragic illustration of this dangerous reality. Innocent victims constantly pay for the inaction of politicians. Nebraska MUST identify solutions which keep the dangerously mentally ill AWAY from innocent people. Meanwhile, Douglas County government is currently sitting on an empty, secure, brand new 64 bed “juvenile facility” at a cost of $20,000+ a month simply to maintain the vacant space. With appropriate steps, this valuable facility could be repurposed into a secure mental health facility, among many other possibilities, to KEEP PEOPLE SAFE. It’s time for Federal, State and local leaders to WORK TOGETHER to find real SOLUTIONS.

Over the past 3 years, the Sheriff's Office has made it our mission to put dangerous criminals behind bars, crack down on reckless driving, and address the issues that matter to you.  Douglas County is becoming a safer place, but there’s more work to do. That’s why I’m announcing my re-election campaign to continue serving as your Sheriff. aaronhansonforsheriff.com/

Chief Deputy Niemack and I were 10 minutes away from this morning’s Dallas ICE Facility sniper murders. We, along with most other major Sheriffs in the US, were preparing to meet with the FBI Director at time of the shooting. Pray for the innocent ICE detainee shooting victims and their families. Pray for our law enforcment officers - and especially our targeted ICE Agents - as we navigate these chaotic times. Pray for our nation. Regardless of what side it comes from, these politically motivated assassinations MUST STOP. The Chief Deputy and I are more committed than ever to proactively protecting innocent people in our community and aggressively pursuing those who would do them harm, BEFORE they strike. More to come.

Charlie Kirk’s assassin Tyler Robinson, 22, killed him because he hated his opinions and thought he was a fascist. Yet ironically, HE was the fascist, killing someone to silence their opposing views. The woke left love to say ‘speech is violent.’ It’s not - violence is.

Responsible gun owners (who don’t want to be shot with their own guns) exercise proper weapons retention. 👉🏽Keep it holstered. 👉🏽Keep it concealed. 👉🏽Train often.

Big things ahead for Nebraska.
I'm sorting through special things from my office as I settle in. This special piece was hand made by my MOM, March 27, 1998 when I graduated from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center as a rookie @lavistapolice Officer. Unfortunately, my mom never saw the opportunities to follow, a long career at LVPD, the honor to serve as the @KearneyPolice Chief and most recently, joining the @NEStatePatrol Team as Colonel-Superintendent. I’m certain she would be just as proud! I’m thankful for my mom and dad, they both formed my leadership style! Don't blink, take it all in. 💙

Congratulations to Mayor-elect John Ewing as well as Councilmembers Festersen, Begley, Hug, Goodwin, Melton, Rowe and Harding. Now comes the hard work as we strive to collaboratively make a safe community even safer and address quality of life matters for all of our shared constituents. Neighborhood issues matter and city and county leaders are so fortunate to have such a dedicated group of police, deputies and firefighters to serve and protect them.

I was contacted by a constituent this weekend who reported to be at a recent presentation by Douglas County Treasurer and Mayoral Candidate John Ewing. According to the constituent, a question was posed from the audience (paraphrasing): Q- “What is your stance on the Sheriff working to address homeless tent encampments and cooperationg with ICE?” Ewing’s reported response (again, paraphrasing): A- “The Sheriff and I will have a very blunt conversation about those topics when I am Mayor.” Mr. Treasurer: If true, we should probably have that blunt conversation sooner rather than later - today- and have it very publicly. My (our) constituents broadly support DCSO’s efforts to work with ICE to remove high risk criminals from our community. (So far arresting sex offenders, rapists, domestic abusers, armed criminals and thieves). My (our) constituents also regularly request DCSO assistance to mitigate crime and drug addiction hotbed tent encampments that disrupt their neighborhoods. We do so by balancing *enforcing the law* while also offering services and transportation to shelter and treatment options. If you disagree with my approach on these very real challenges, we should probably have a very public and live “blunt conversation” on the radio or on a broadly viewed neutral local social media platform. If not true, and you do agree with my approach on both fronts, feel free to make that clear as well. Either way, our bosses - the public - deserves to know.

Yet another reminder that smart energy policy is smart public safety policy. Hardening our grid > Green Energy. I wonder how many power lines could have put underground for a fraction of the price of green energy investments? 🚨Any of you without power right now… What say you? 🚨 Thank you line workers!!!
