As measured by Nobel prizes, pure math has made very limited contributions to science. In the last 50 years, math PhDs account for 1/126 Nobel prizes in physics, 3/112 in chemistry, and 0/116 in medicine. They have greater contributions in economics, with 8/88 going to math PhDs
