An observation: High or road ways have been swamped by invasive weeds! Notably, Road Construction seems to be one of the catalysts in the super spread of such obnoxious invasive alien species (IAS) like Parthenium sp. Management of IAS requires multi-sectoral approach.
What does Parthenium hysterophorus infestation mean for a farmer experiencing it firsthand? Today in Kayunga District, farmers are sharing their experiences with researchers, extension personnel and other stakeholders as part of the ASARECA-led initiative promoting sustainable biological control solutions. The field engagement provides participants with an opportunity to observe Parthenium infestation firsthand, hear directly from farmers and better understand the challenges communities face in managing the invasive weed. Connecting farmers' lived experiences with research-based solutions is essential to ensuring that agricultural innovations respond to real challenges and can be effectively adopted at community level. The initiative is strengthening knowledge transfer and promoting environmentally sustainable approaches to managing invasive species. The activity is implemented under the CAADP-XP4 Programme, funded by the @EU_Commission, and managed by the @IFAD.

ASARECA, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (@MAAIF_Uganda), and the National Agricultural Research Organisation (@narouganda), is set to launch a Beetle Rearing Facility for the Biocontrol of Parthenium hysterophorus in Kayunga District from 17–18 August 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen the transfer and uptake of sustainable biological control solutions for the management of invasive species, while building the capacity of farmers and other agricultural stakeholders to apply environmentally friendly approaches. The beetle rearing facility represents an important step towards taking proven biological control innovations from research to the communities that need them. The activity is implemented under the CAADP-XP4 Programme, funded by the @EU_Commission, and managed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (@IFAD). @NARO_DG, @sdbaguma, @FrankTumwebazek, @blaiseamony, @joshuaokonya.
