The reported abduction of Louis Ninsiima, an LDC student, is a direct affront to constitutionalism and the rule of law.
What exactly are we teaching the next generation of lawyers when a law student can reportedly be picked up by unidentified individuals, his whereabouts become uncertain, and the country is expected to carry on as though nothing has happened?
Are we building a country governed by laws or one governed by the discretion of whoever carries the guns?
If Louis has committed an offence, charge him. If there is evidence against him, present it before a competent court. But who gave anyone the authority to turn Uganda into a place where people can allegedly disappear without accountability?
Let us be clear: A government cannot claim to uphold the Constitution while tolerating practices that undermine its very foundation.
You cannot demand respect for the law from ordinary citizens while appearing to disregard it when exercising State power.
I demand answers from the responsible authorities. Where is Louis Ninsiima? Who took him? Under what legal authority? And when will his family know his whereabouts?
Uganda must never become a country where the Constitution exists in law books while fear governs the streets.
We cannot be training lawyers to defend the rule of law in lecture rooms while watching the rule of law being questioned outside those same classrooms.

THE UNLAWFUL ABDUCTION OF LOUIS NINSIIMA
Our attention has been drawn to the deeply concerning and lawless abduction of Louis Ninsiima, a 25-year-old law graduate and climate activist.
On Sunday, 1 November 2026, at approximately 1:00 PM, Louis was picked up by unidentified plainclothes security operatives at his mother’s shop on Kiyembe Lane in Kikuubo, Kampala.
Since his abduction, his whereabouts remain unknown, and he has been denied access to his family and legal counsel.
Information available to us indicates that Louis is being held and interrogated over his association and friendship with fellow activist Praise Aloikin Opoloje.
Let it be known clearly: friendship is not a criminal offense under the laws of Uganda. Depriving a citizen of their liberty without due process, keeping them in unacknowledged safe houses, and operating outside the established legal frameworks is a gross violation of Article 23 of the Constitution of Uganda.
We strongly condemn this state-engineered lawlessness.
We demand that:
1. The security agencies immediately and publicly acknowledge that Louis Ninsiima is in their custody and reveal his whereabouts.
2. He be granted immediate access to his legal team, medical personnel, and family.
3. He be released unconditionally or produced before a competent court of law as mandated by the constitution.
We cannot look on as the state normalises the arbitrary arrest of young professionals and activists. We are taking immediate legal steps to hold the state accountable and ensure Louis is returned to safety.

If it happens continuously for a couple of years, that people are abducted and tortured, it will stop appearing abominable. It will appear to be part of our normal - and that could be part of the torturers’ strategy. It will shock you that any evil done repeatedly loses shock value, and people can get used to it - or even defend it as ‘our way’ or ‘culture’. Just the same way some fathers negotiate and sell their own daughters and find it reasonable to think of the prices they set as ‘tokens of appreciation’ . No matter how glaring or obvious, no explanation of the problems of the practice will clear the fog of ‘normal’ from their heads. The answer will be: This is how we have always done it.
In the beginning, People claimed they were targeting the rich and fellow corrupt officials. Now, it has trickled down to the youth.
No one is safe anymore.

Ninsima Louis is a student of law at the @LDC_Uganda. Abduction of @LouisKyle_ is an attack on all students of Uganda, the legal fraternity and all citizens of Uganda. The abuse of human rights continues to enter every section of society. Everyone should be concerned.
