Am I being overly sensitive? There are 3 assistant profs in my dept, two men and myself. Today I noticed that the signs on their doors call them āprofessors of mathematicsā and mine says āassistant Professor.ā What gives?

No one pushes anyone to leave academia. The academic system does that very well on its own.

Most grad students don't need another thing on the CV. They need more money so that they can do what they're already doing with less stress.
Financial worry is debilitating.

An impression of the True Opening of the university today ā¬ļø
Our talk: āWe believe the university can be, and should be, a place that goes against the neoliberal trend of maximizing productivity at the cost of care, creativity and academic freedomā 1)

A note to everyone on the academic job market. May the odds be ever in your favor and all that, but please know that there are great, exciting, accommodating, high-paying jobs out there that are outside of the traditional academic bubble. Consider exploring all your options :)

This tweet is screenshot and trolled widely beyond academic twitter. Just to clarify for nonacademics and academics in the US - it would have cost me out of pocket Ā£3000 for boycotting APSA, money I also need for food and shelter. If that means Iām being selfish, I guess I am.

Lots of people saying they understand why Iām leaving academia, but itās a shame. Thatās exactly how I feel! I hate being yet another woman having a child and then leaving. I wish the situation was different but academic life hasnāt changed to fit with real life. @AcademicChatter ā at South East, England

Full time teaching and after 5 y no possibility of extension or permanent contract? No chance of obtaining a PhD? University level teaching without research?
This is structural teaching: Why are these not regular assistant professor jobs?

Unfortunately, we increasingly have to make a distinction between actual academic research and the university as a poor facilitator of this.
However, action groups want to change things for the better. Join them this afternoonš

I would like to clarify a few things about my case because some misinformation has been spread
I was up for my 5th year review. This is a critical review in which one can be promoted to non-tenured Associate Professor and then be put up for tenure the following year (1/n)

once again twitter reminds me that career academics will hold on tightly to this idea that financial success requires unethical conduct, subterfuge or selling your soul etcetera.
it's a mind cage designed to keep folks from asking for a better life.

Susanne TƤuber must be reinstated.
People adressing discrimination in academia must be protected from being fired.
Otherwise academia becomes a neoliberal brave new world where smiling faces on pr photos cover up the brutal silencing of those who speak truth to power.

In solidarity with staff and students at the RUG! Shocked at the normalisation of violent evictions! University campuses historically were, and should be, community spaces where staff and students can organize socially, culturally and politically.
And when push came to shove, our employer @univgroningen did not hesitate to make the decision to end the peaceful demonstration in a violent way. We are shocked by the violence the police displayed tonight. 1/

Today, after the @univgroningen board rejected the demand to reinstate dr. Susanne TƤuber by the end of the month, students of @occupy_rug have shown that they stick to the demands and will not budge. 1/

The @univgroningen has fired Susanne TƤuber from her tenured position for complaining + speaking out about discrimination at her university.
Weeks have gone by, but I refuse to normalize this event + the horrifying reality it has exposed.

In the context of work in industry this is a very key point. All phds are knowledgeable/smart. But a small subset can be team players and cross functional enablers.

Feminist researchers challenge dominant power structures, expose injustices & inequalities, in order to achieve an equitable, democratic, inclusive uni & society. It is obvious why feminist researchers are often vulnerable to criticism, backlash, and even harassment.
