9 future bankruptcies from guys keeping their W2 in this thread.
If you work a W2 job and don't have a boring business that pays you $5k-$10k a month on top of your salary...
I got you.
Here are 9 boring businesses for sale today (& where to buy them):
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The "cash flow" figures are Seller's Discretionary Earnings (SDE) including seller compensation for running the business; these service businesses are not passive side income atop a W2 salary and require active management or added costs that reduce net returns.

I am so happy to be part of MDS. It was my first real eCom group and the place where I found a tribe. I have gotten so much help and grown so much and give back to them however I can. This time was in the form of being interviewed by Forbes.

My fees alone to sell this item would exceed $5.97. Amazon should have to apply its own fee structure.
Hey @TXAG I hope you will take a serious look at this and join the other states.
You have many many small and medium businesses in Texas that spend millions on amazon ads every year under the good faith assumption we were participating in a true auction, not an attempt to ring us for every single point of margin.
Replying to @michaelpatron0
a few quotes below - this is pretty disappointing. Sellers were already fed up with the new fees this year and now that we find out Amazon has been secretly working against us for years...it feels like getting cheated...
Why do we allow Chinese sellers on ecommerce platforms then?
They play by a whole different set of rules than law abiding US businesses.
What makes auto companies immune to this?
@USTreasury @USTradeRep @USTradeRep @jamiesongreer
"Would you ever allow Chinese autos into the United States?"
@POTUS: "I'm the one that kept them out — the tariffs kept them out... unlike Europe, which is being decimated."
Ebay seller performance is the dumbest system I've ever seen if you are a hobby seller.
Marks against you don't just fall off over time. They only improve with more sales. So if you have limited sales, the "low performance" % on some statistic just persists indefinitely.
We have a mark over "cases closed without seller resolution". How in the world do we bring that % down as a hobby seller?
Are we literally supposed to sell more, to have more cases opened against us, to then resolve them and bring the % down? This makes no sense. And the % calculation goes back literally over a year. And yet we get emails that we need to improve this stat. How @eBay would you propose I bring down a stat that requires more sales AND more cases opened (which is a negative outcome on an even smaller % of sales) in order to resolve them.
Tiktok is by far the most interesting place for seeing brands and customers interact because of the ability go viral and respond.
Lovesac is fighting for its life after 1 influencer posted a video of having to spend an entire day putting together an 8k couch.
Could not have imagined this level of brand destruction from Nike 10 years ago.
Nike has lost nearly 80% of its market cap over the last 5 years. When the stock was near its peak, Ethan Strauss wrote the definitive take on how the company was fumbling the bag.
They were a brand defined by Michael Jordan’s competitiveness and machismo, and with a heavily male customer base, they thought they could double in size if they could be that and also be Lululemon at the same time.
But instead, they stopped being that while failing to be Lululemon and now, they are nothing. A bunch of upstart competitors ate their lunch while they destroyed their brand and reputation.
Amazon about to punish all its top sellers and impact our cash flows to save maybe 1% in interchange fees. And that's after extending when we get paid to us earlier this year.
Such rage bait. Top 1-2% income.
90k private school
30k in savings
16k in 529s
Still enough money for a high end grocery budget, 9k in vacations, 4K to charity. And then pretend this person is broke at the end of the year.
What's the point of time freedom if it doesn't free you up to spend time with the people that you care about?
What kind of community are you building for yourself if you don't feel the need to even attend the weddings of your closest friends?
Seems like a very empty existence.
why Naval deleted his calendar, ghosts everyone, and refuses to be anywhere at a specific time
Naval: "I read a blog post by Marc Andreessen where he said don't keep a schedule. And I took that to heart. So I deleted my calendar and I don't keep a schedule. I try to remember it all in my head. If I can't remember it, I'm not going to add it."
"I have a nasty email autoresponder that says, I don't check email and don't text me either. If you need to find me, you'll find me."
"My wife knows not to ever book or schedule me for anything. I'm not expected to go to couples dinners. I'm not expected to go to birthdays. I'm not expected to go to weddings. If somebody tries to rope her into having me show up, she says he makes his own decisions. You got to ask him directly."
Chris: "Are you not killing serendipity in a way?"
Naval: "No. I'm freeing up all my time. So my entire life is serendipity. I get to interact with whoever I want, whenever I want, wherever."
I've seen about 50 StubHub horror stories about people traveling for the world cup and never getting their tickets. Do I just NOT understand how ticket markets work?
Why is stubhub not requiring the tickets transfer the moment you pay? Why can the seller wait until literally hours before the game to send them and if they don't it just refunds?
This is obviously an insane business practice when people spend thousands to travel for events and it incentivizes people to cancel the transaction if the value of the tickets has gone way up. They're just reselling somewhere else.
An Indictment Of @StubHub
@StubHub collects a 200% penalty from sellers who don't deliver - but gives only 100% of that money to buyers who got stiffed
So @StubHub makes a 100% profit on the back end when tickets are not delivered
Why would it care?

This is one of those things that annoys sellers. I don't hate amazon selling (similar to other house brands) but they don't follow their own rules.
$3.99 wouldn't even cover fulfillment cost of this bottle. I'd lose $2-3 per unit (before ads and referral fees). Making it incredibly hard for anyone to compete in a very large category.
It seems like bundling property tax and mortgage payments was a mistake. The average person just has no concept that these have nothing to do with each other.
So if I buy my house cash I should never pay property tax? It's incoherent.
Deeply unserious. 2,000 sq ft is 3-4 bedrooms and 2+ bathrooms. Plenty of space for 1-2 kids.
They make good money, travel and golf. He's a firefighter who will receive a pension. This is a priorities issue, not income.
"Rilee Stewart and Brock Goodwin always imagined having several children...
But that vision shifted once they settled into their 2,000-sq-foot house with a $3,200 mortgage...
They realized that even with one child, they would most likely need more space."
