🇪🇺🇨🇦 Od niedawna zalew wiadomości, że UE wycofuje się z propozycji członkostwa stowarzyszonego dla Kanady. Wyjaśniam, o co chodzi.
We wrześniu Ursula von der Leyen zaproponowała Kanadzie nową formę współpracy z UE, obejmującą handel, obronność i technologie.

The @NHL and #Rogers signed an $11B deal to hijack Canada’s game, strip away free CBC access, and slice up broadcasts behind endless paywalls.
They don't care about the fans. They see us as piggy banks to be squeezed dry for every nickel.
Time to cancel subscriptions and let the viewership crash. 🚫🏒💰

In Dagestan, a 45-year-old teacher spends four hours a day walking mountain paths to reach a school with just three pupils, situated 1,800 metres above sea level, reports Mash.
Khadizhat Shekhmagomedovna is the school’s only teacher, covering every subject herself.
She has been making the 14km daily round trip on foot for nine years, braving wolves and treacherous mountain terrain.
Despite the difficulties, she has no intention of quitting, she tells Mash.

Reminder. Do not subscribe to Sportsnet+. It's a blatant cash grab. Let their viewing numbers dwindle to nothing, and they'll hear about it from their advertisers. @Rogers and @Sportsnet this is corporate greed personified!

I’m not paying $35/mo to watch two @MapleLeafs games, @Sportsnet. I already pay for a sports package, meanwhile you’ve got the Jays on 5 channels instead of the Leafs–@NHLFlames game. You’re pushing people to grey market and sealing your fate in bloated broadcaster obsolescence.

🇨🇦 THEY STOOD ON GUARD
Private George Gordon Laing (1896–1917)
58th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force
He was just 21 years old when his life ended on the muddy battlefields of Passchendaele.
Born on July 15, 1896, in London, Ontario, George Gordon Laing was the son of James Laing and his wife, whose family later lived on Essex Avenue in Toronto.
On December 6, 1915, at just 19 years old, George enlisted with the 110th Battalion. He would eventually be transferred to the 58th Battalion and sent into the fighting of the First World War.
On October 26, 1917, Canadian troops began their offensive at Passchendaele, Belgium.
The battlefield was a nightmare of flooded shell craters, shattered trees, deep mud, and relentless artillery and machine-gun fire. Soldiers struggled to advance across ground that had been devastated by months of fighting.
Among those who lost their lives that day was Private George Gordon Laing.
He was only 21.
George has no known grave. His name is inscribed on the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres, Belgium, alongside thousands of soldiers whose final resting places remain unknown.
Back home in Ontario, a family was left to mourn a young man whose life had barely begun.
Today, 109 years later, we remember George not simply as another casualty of war, but as a son, a young Canadian, and an individual whose life mattered.

Canadian heavy crude is fetching near-record premiums across the Pacific, bolstering the case for the country’s plan to build a new pipeline to its west coast.
A barrel of Canadian Cold Lake crude delivered to South Korea traded at a record $9.50 a barrel more than the Dubai crude benchmark in September.
It’s a stark contrast to the weakening price Canadian oil is getting in the US, its biggest market. Oil sands benchmark Western Canadian Select’s discount, called a differential, to a monthly average of West Texas Intermediate futures widened to as much as $28.25 a barrel in Alberta last week, the biggest in almost four years.
