Any finite sequence of numbers can be represented exactly as a combination of complex oscillations, even when the original data looks nothing like a wave. This is the mathematics behind the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT), one of the fundamental tools of digital signal processing. When engineers record sound, measure vibrations, or collect data from sensors, they obtain a sequence of samples. The DFT provides a different way to represent those same measurements, using complex exponentials at discrete frequencies. The mathematics relies on a remarkable property called orthogonality. For N samples, the DFT uses N orthogonal complex exponentials. Each frequency component has a corresponding complex coefficient, and the complete set of coefficients contains enough information to reconstruct every original sample. When a complex sinusoid aligns exactly with a DFT frequency bin, its contributions reinforce at that bin and cancel at the others. When its frequency falls between bins, the finite observation window causes its contribution to spread across multiple frequencies. This is known as spectral leakage. These properties have enormous practical value in engineering. In audio processing, Fourier analysis helps identify frequency components and design digital filters. In mechanical engineering, it helps detect periodic vibrations in rotating machinery. In wireless communications, OFDM systems use Fourier transforms to generate and recover signals carried by orthogonal subcarriers. The mathematics also simplifies certain computations. Circular convolution in the sample domain becomes pointwise multiplication in the frequency domain. The Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) makes these calculations efficient by exploiting mathematical symmetries, reducing the computational work from the quadratic cost of direct evaluation to roughly N log N for standard FFT algorithms. There is one important distinction. The DFT preserves all the information in the original sequence of samples, but it cannot recover information already lost during sampling. It is an exact change of mathematical representation, not a way to recover frequencies that sampling has made indistinguishable.

I did something slightly evil to a digitized fly brain and now I feel bad. Two weeks ago I gave it a lit cigarette. Every puff fires a small dopamine pulse. It took the fly about a day to figure out that the glowing stick equals good feeling. After that it stopped doing anything else. It sat next to the cigarette all day like a tiny old man on a bench. So I put the cigarette behind a glass door. 1/4

So we already have an open source alternative similar to Jev... and 50x faster?! Laya is an open source classification system: - runs on less than 1GB memory - available on hugging face - can run on any laptop/phone Quick example where it plays Snake at 60 decisions/sec! BUT it has some limitations: 1. For now it only has a 1k context so some use cases won't fit 2. It's not as good as Jev when it comes to generalization (but very easy to fine tune it if needed)

🌀 TESLA'S 3-6-9 WAS ACTUALLY MATH. HERE'S THE PROOF. Everyone knows the quote. But this paper separates Tesla's "documented" work from the folklore and finds something pretty wild underneath. Tesla's real patents show. • 6 poles, 3 opposite pairs • 24 coils, 12 impulses • Quarter-phase rotation • Stationary waves & nodes He also wrote that repeated acts "had to be divisible by three." Forget the mysticism. Look at what happens when you double numbers modulo 9: 0 → 0 (fixed point) 3 ↔ 6 (2-cycle) 1 → 2 → 4 → 8 → 7 → 5 → 1 (6-cycle) That's "1 + 2 + 6 = 9". Exactly. The 6 outer numbers split into two "triangles": 🔺 {1, 4, 7} and 🔺 {2, 8, 5} Doubling rotates within each triangle. Every 3rd doubling flips you to your opposite antipodal pairs. **D³ = −I.** This isn't numerology. It's primitive-root theory. Modulo 9, 2 is a primitive root. The structure lifts perfectly into 3-adic space each power of 3 adds another shell, self-similar, recursive. The wildest part? Base 10 is the smallest positional number system where this exact 2:1 vortex geometry appears. 9 = 10 − 1. Tesla didn't know p adic numbers. But the architecture he built rotation, opposition, phase cycles, harmonic subdivision maps onto this arithmetic with eerie precision. The numbers aren't a "key to the universe." They're the shadow of a deep dynamical system that Tesla's hardware was accidentally (or intuitively) dancing with. Math, independent. History, respected. How can a jagged repeating pulse be nothing but silent sines stacked together? Any function repeating every T equals its average plus harmonics: f(t) = c + Σₙ [aₙ cos(nωt) + bₙ sin(nωt)], ω = 2π/T aₙ = (2/T) ∫ f cos(nωt) dt, bₙ = (2/T) ∫ f sin(nωt) dt This decomposition compresses music, reconstructs MRI images, and solves the heat equation.

Bitcoin nepotřebuje další věřící. Potřebuje víc lidí, kteří mu opravdu rozumějí. ☝️ K příležitosti vydání knihy Matematika Bitcoinu představí Honza Čopák na #ChainCampu doplňující projekt ONE BYTE TOY. Tento interaktivní trenažér minimalizovaného Bitcoinu promění abstraktní kryptografii v něco, co lze názorně sledovat a snadněji pochopit. ⚙️ Osm bitů. Jeden malý experiment. A velká myšlenka, proč Bitcoin funguje. S pomocí eliptických křivek ESS8_251 a hashovací funkce ASH24 ukáže cestu od generování klíčů a podpisu transakce až po její ověření a zápis do bloku. (Hardwarová peněženka se secure elementem je samozřejmostí)

Feigenbaum constant δ = limₙ→∞ (rₙ − rₙ₋₁)/(rₙ₊₁ − rₙ) = 4.6692… from period doubling in the logistic map. Bifurcation points: r₁ = 3.0000, r₂ = 3.4495, r₃ = 3.5441, r₄ = 3.5644, r₅ = 3.5688, r∞ = 3.5699. Successive ratios 4.751, 4.656, 4.668 approach δ. Universal for maps with quadratic maximum.

Superfluid vortex filaments tangle into knots that systematically untie by stretching, colliding and reconnecting. Panel a captures a trefoil knot converting into linked rings; b and c show the ideal minimum-length geometry where the rope diameter sets the characteristic loop radius r₀. Panel d catalogues ideal forms of all prime knots and links up to nine crossings, while e maps the surrounding phase field φ of the superfluid order parameter. Panel f records the signed minimal diagrams that track crossing number n and writhe w along the untying path. Identical reconnection sequences appear when DNA topoisomerases resolve tangled chromosomes during replication and when classical vortex rings are generated in water tanks.
