Three Libertarians filed for office in Alaska this week. Jim McDermott for U.S. House. Scott Kohlhaas for U.S. Senate. Jonathan Powell-Mark for Alaska House District 31. Alaska deserves a real alternative. We are done waiting.

We have serious disagreements with Sen. Claman's legislative record. But if Kreiss-Tomkins is picking an AG, the question is who can actually do the job. Claman has 35+ years of real legal practice. Dunbar has Yale on his diploma and part-time JAG duty. The AG runs Alaska's litigation shop. And Forrest, you've been in the Senate for three years. Finish your term. Alaska already watched one ambitious politician walk away early.
Hearing both Sens. Matt Claman and Forrest Dunbar are angling to be attorney general under a Kreiss-Tomkins administration. Apparently there are conflicting legal interpretations because the pay for AG was raised when they were in the #akleg but it was during the last Legislature.

FBI, Troopers, HomeLand security 🤣 I’m just making that last one up, but the FBI and the troopers are definitely looking into decoy Dan, and Mary pretty serious now. But….. None of this is new. I’ve been telling people this for years. I’ve been posting about it and writing about it for almost 3 years now. The Sixteen Thirty Fund has been the left’s biggest dark money machine for years. Arabella Advisors set it up. Billionaires like Wyss, Soros, Omidyar, and Zuckerberg dump cash into it so they never have to put their names on the checks. Then it sprays the money out to super PACs and pop-up groups that do the dirty work. Everybody who covers politics knows this. Every senator and congressman who has been around more than a minute knows this. The filings are public. The 990s are public. Influence Watch and OpenSecrets have laid it out for years. But now that the same fund just dropped nearly a million into Right for Alaska and another three hundred fifty thousand into Cornerstone Founders PAC, suddenly people are acting shocked. Right for Alaska spent big boosting fringe candidates and the guy who shares a name with Dan Sullivan. Cornerstone did the same thing on the House side for the Libertarian and another spoiler. Same two funders. Same window. Same top-four primary math. And the journalists who have been sitting on this pattern for years are now writing it up like they just discovered fire. The elected officials who took the meetings and the checks and the endorsements all knew how the game worked. They just decided it was better to stay quiet when the money was helping their side. Now that the FBI is looking at the Decoy Dan piece and people are paying attention, the same crowd is pretending this is some big secret that only came out yesterday. It wasn’t. The receipts have been sitting in the FEC database the whole time. The Sixteen Thirty Fund has been moving hundreds of millions every cycle. The only thing that changed is that someone finally made it loud enough that they couldn’t keep ignoring it. I can’t hate people enough.

While watching today’s FBI press conference in Anchorage, we pulled the FEC filings on the PAC that spent $588,000 supporting our House candidate Jim McDermott in August without our knowledge. The same two funders behind the Senate operation funded that PAC too. Same operative treasurer connecting both. Both Alaska federal races. Same primary window. All public record at the FEC website under committee ID C00948653. We found it this morning.

Recruiting a candidate is First Amendment activity. Political organizing is First Amendment activity. Running for office is First Amendment activity. The courts already said the state couldn't remove Dan J. Sullivan from the ballot. The NYT story doesn't change that. It just proves factions do what Madison said they would. That was never the scandal. The federal and state response is.

The Constitution lists three qualifications to run for U.S. Senate. Age. Citizenship. Residency. Dan J. Sullivan met all three. The Alaska Supreme Court agreed twice. Federalist 10 didn't promise factions would stop trying to manipulate outcomes. It warned they always would. The answer Madison gave wasn't moral declarations from sitting senators. It was structural rules that apply regardless of who benefits. Sen. Murkowski's statement isn't a check on faction politics. It is faction politics.

Nothing described here is illegal. Hamilton and the Anti-Federalists agreed in 1788 that the qualifications clause was exhaustive. Two Alaska courts confirmed it in 2026. The founders specifically decided this was allowed.
So this is wild. Daniel J. Sullivan (Decoy Dan) has a son Noah. Noah works for Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, the co-chair of the Blue Dog Democrats. When @MaryPeltola was in Congress, she was a co-chair of the Blue Dog Democrats along with… Gluesenkamp Perez! The odds of Decoy Dan filing to run against @SenDanSullivan and Decoy Dan’s son workin for Gluesenkamp Perez being a coincidence are near zero.

The current Supreme Court uses originalist interpretation. Originalism means you read the Federalist Papers and the Anti-Federalist Papers to find the founders' intent. Both sides of that founding debate agreed the qualifications clause was exhaustive. An originalist bench is the last bench they want reviewing this.

Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 60, February 23, 1788: "Its authority would be expressly restricted to the regulation of the times, the places, and the manner of elections. The qualifications of the persons who may choose or be chosen are defined and fixed in the constitution; and are unalterable by the legislature." Madison, Federalist No. 62, February 27, 1788, listed three qualifications and stopped. The convention debated property requirements, religious tests, and district residency. They chose three. The Federal Farmer, the leading Anti-Federalist critic of the Constitution, was furious about the qualifications clause. He complained that the Constitution allows "pagans," "convicts," and "beggars" to serve in Congress. He wanted property requirements and religious qualifications. He was angry because the list was exhaustive and he knew it. Adding more qualifications required a constitutional amendment. John Dickinson at the Constitutional Convention opposed listing any qualifications at all. Farrand's Records: he argued that enumerating some would "by implication tie up the hands of the Legislature from supplying the omissions." The convention listed three anyway. Dickinson was right about the consequence. Chief Justice Earl Warren, Powell v. McCormack, 1969: "In judging the qualifications of its members Congress is limited to the standing qualifications prescribed in the Constitution." Justice John Paul Stevens, US Term Limits v. Thornton, 1995: "The Framers intended the Constitution to be the exclusive source of qualifications for members of Congress, and that the Framers thereby divested States of any power to add qualifications." The current Supreme Court uses originalist interpretation. Originalism means you read the Federalist Papers and the Anti-Federalist Papers to find the founders' intent. Hamilton, Madison, the Federal Farmer, and Dickinson all understood Article I the same way. Warren confirmed it in 1969. Stevens confirmed it in 1995. Two Alaska courts confirmed it in June 2026. The photos above are from The Heritage Foundation's own constitutional reference. This is the conservative movement's own legal scholarship. The list has not changed since February 27, 1788.

Katie Zacharia cut her first White House press briefing short to board Marine One for Alaska. She called it "our historic trip." She stood behind Trump at the Menard Center in Wasilla while the venue packed out. By that night, White House officials were calling her debut "brutal." She was gone in five days. The president flew four time zones to tell Alaskans how to vote on November 3. Alaskans have other options. Heather McElwain is running for U.S. Senate. Jim McDermott is running for U.S. House.

In 2016, Jim McDermott debated on the Debate for the State stage. In 2022, Libertarian Chris Bye debated on the same stage. In 2026, Jim is on the ballot and asked to participate. Alaska Public Media said the debate is for candidates with a "realistic path to office." The stage hasn't moved. The standard has.

Trump renamed Denali. Today Trump does not recognize Indigenous Peoples Day. Alaska has 229 federally recognized tribes who were here long before the feds had named anything. Happy Indigenous People's Day, especially to the tribes of Alaska.
