Next year will mark the 1,100th anniversary of the creation of England.
Almost uniquely in the world, it has remained a recognisably unified polity ever since.
Celebrations are in order.

Slavery happened.
Itโs sad.
The Royal Navy was integral in stopping it.
We canโt change the past but we can change the future.
Letโs get on with it.
In short: โIโm sorry you feel that way. Stop scrounging.โ

What I'd like to hear the King say.
"The transatlantic slave trade was a shameful period of history, but history is where it belongs. Britain didn't invent the trade, but she did end it, costing the lives of 2000 Royal Navy sailors. We have already made amends."

Britain formerly apologised in 1840.
That was during the same period the Royal Navy had an entire squadron off Western Africa dedicated to capturing slave ships & freeing slaves.
Also, intermittently off East Africa.
Also, during the same period the Foreign Office was trying to lobby African Kingdoms to give up slavery - many often resistant, resulting in gun-boat diplomacy.

๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ๐ฌ๐ง Britain sent warships into a friendly country's harbours. ๐ฅ
And burned its ships at anchor. โ
That country was Brazil ๐ง๐ท
More enslaved Africans were taken to Brazil than to any other country on earth. โ๏ธ
Not America ๐บ๐ธ Brazil ๐ง๐ท
Nearly half of everyone shipped across the Atlantic went there. Ten times more than the United States. ๐
In 1826 Britain made Brazil sign a treaty. The trade would end by 1830. ๐
Brazil signed. Then ignored it. They even had a phrase for laws like that: "para inglรชs ver". For the English to see. ๐
Tens of thousands of people kept arriving every year. ๐
So Britain changed the law. Brazilian slave ships could now be tried in British courts as pirates. โ๏ธ
In 1850 the Royal Navy sailed into Brazil's ports, under the guns of the forts. They cut out the slave ships and burned them. ๐ข
Emperor Pedro II's government had a choice. War with Britain. Or end the trade. โ๏ธ
That September, Brazil banned it. Within two years the trade was dead. ๐๏ธ
Yet today only one country is asked to feel ashamed. ๐ค
The one that stopped it. ๐ฌ๐ง

I donโt want a leader that apologises for the transatlantic slave trade.
I want a leader that promotes the fact that Britain abolished the slave trade at great sacrifice whilst condemning the modern slave trade active throughout Africa and the Middle East.

Perhaps the Prime Minister would do better to focus on the 50 million people enslaved TODAY - four times the number transported throughout 300 years of transatlantic slavery.

Skyrim had 3 different Elder Scrolls in it, I was kinda hoping that there'd be less emphasis on them in the next game
According to The Verge, an official announcement of The Elder Scrolls VI will happen very soon, even as early as next month. It will be called "The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel", and will take place in the province of Hammerfell. The game's story will focus on the Elder Scrolls artifacts themselves, and uncovering the secrets of the Scrolls.
