How does the brain balance learning new things without overwriting what it already knows? Our new paper tackles this long-standing stability–plasticity dilemma during active navigation. With @Adrinnenberg from the @KarlDeisseroth lab. (1/8)

What if we could watch AND control thousands of individual neurons in behaving mice—with stable access over months? 🧠⚡ Our new preprint introduces transgenic all-optical tools that make this possible - and a resulting surprising discovery! 🔭💡

This would not have been possible without their new mouse lines. Check out this preprint for more information: doi.org/10.1101/2025.10.21.6…

What is the nature of sensory prediction error signals in neocortex and the circuit-mechanisms underlying them? Genuinely thrilled to see this epic effort from Shohei Furutachi in my and @TFlogel's lab out on @biorxivpreprint: biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor…

We are paying $3400 for infant daycare at Harvard. In 2017 as a first year postdoc, this is higher than my post tax salary. It does not make sense financially to work as a postdoc and to raise a kid. You wonder why some women quit science at this point??
Replying to @sa_redmond
Did you know:
UCSF daycare is $2800/mo for infants? 😳😳😳
A UCSF 2bedroom is $2779/mo
$5579/mo in just rent and daycare 🤯
To afford rent, daycare, and everything else, I have a 2x90min commute and live 30miles away from campus.
It is very difficult.
