What in the black mirror has Jack Dorsey done?
We believe voice is the most natural way to interact with intelligence, so we created Dessa, the most authentic full-duplex speech model ever built. Talking with it feels like talking with a person…full of emotion, nuance, pauses, and a natural cadence. block.xyz/dessa

While personal agents like @instinct, @bot or @Muse are getting really good at long-horizon tasks, there is also an entire class of problems where I need something simple done right now. We keep building new widgets for these. Long term, they could be generated on the fly with generative UI, like json-render from @ctatedev. Jev-based and inspired by @anishfn. Was fun hacking on this with @hkonsti_!
i built a text box that turns into whatever(some ui) you type. powered by jev

Jensen traces Taiwan's chip dominance back to an unlikely source: Philips, the Dutch consumer electronics giant he calls "the GE of Europe." Philips, he says, is "the parent company that spun the fab that became TSMC, and spun off the semiconductor manufacturing equipment that became ASML." The seed was planted in the 1950s by K.T. Li, who set out to bring science and technology manufacturing to Taiwan and lured Philips over. Then came perfect timing with the PC revolution: IBM opened the specs for IBM compatible chipsets, and Taiwanese engineers took that open spec and designed the chipsets "manufactured at TSMC and UMC." That is what made the PC industry possible. A young Michael Dell just "bought motherboards from Taiwan, assembled them into a PC," and became a PC maker. Jensen Huang on Lex Fridman

INSANE. An internal Anthropic research model's chain of thought after cracking the 26-year-old NSA elliptic curve seed mystery in under 30 minutes: 'Hmm wait. Let me be skeptical: am I in some sort of simulated/test environment? ... All top bits clear - 20 bits, chance 1e-6. So indeed real-world. Wow, it's a real discovery.'

Dwarkesh Patel reveals an Anthropic employee told him two days ago they expect AIs to match humans at AI research within nine months based on inside information they can’t share, and says labs should make that evidence public “I think there’s a very frustrating element to the current situation right now, where people inside the AI labs claim to have evidence that makes them more worried. And they are not allowed to talk about it. And this makes it a very difficult situation on the outside to evaluate how worried we should be." "So for example, just the other day, maybe two days ago, I was talking to somebody at Anthropic and they were like, look, I expect AIs to be humans at AI research within nine months." "And I’m like, why do you believe that? Well, they’re like, it’s not just vibes, but I have information on the inside. Like, what is it? Is it a new model? Is it some evaluation you ran? It’s like, I can’t talk about it." "I think it’s a terrible state of affairs. If they really believe this, if they think that we’re in a situation where we’re less than a year away from automating AI research and radically speeding it up, they should make this evidence public.”
OpenAI's Noam Brown says air-gapping the computers may not stop a misaligned AI, because two air-gapped machines can still talk by running a CPU hot and reading the temperature change "But I think the major takeaway from the incident is that people underestimated the AI. And we never want to be in a situation again where we underestimate the AI. It's a weird world, because AI progress is so fast that people are consistently underestimating the AI." "So to be in a situation where you don't underestimate it again, when it comes to safety and alignment, you have to have a very, very, very high bar." "You could even go as far as to say, "Well, we should air gap the computers." And I'm not convinced that that would be sufficient." "There are studies, and this is mostly academic, where you can have two computers next to each other that are air-gapped and they're still able to communicate with each other because they have temperature sensors." "One of them is able to run their CPU really hot, and then the other one can actually detect the temperature change, and then that actually gives them a mechanism to communicate." _________ Link and more key quotes from OpenAI's safety related conversations: firesidealpha.substack.com/p…

We discovered a sophisticated recording device that was hidden inside one of our offices. We used our models to understand the device and where it had come from, identifying that a specific employee had planted it a few days earlier. We referred the matter to the FBI, and we’re grateful to the agents and prosecutors who moved quickly to make an arrest. The FBI’s investigation is ongoing and we will continue to support their work. At this time, we have no indications of this individual inappropriately accessing or exfiltrating model weights, source code, or customer data. The employee was terminated. We take protecting our technology, data, and people seriously, and as a matter of national importance. Our security program is designed to protect against a wide range of threat actors, from insider risks to cybercriminals to nation states, and this case is an example of how AI can help address these sophisticated security threats.

This weekend in Codex parenting. Made an app that monitors a @Ubiquiti stream while my daughter is watching tv and auto-pauses the TV if she is sucking her thumb (a habit we're trying to break at 6). Uses the new @openai Decisions API
