For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. Even setting religion aside, I think there are good practical reasons why monogamy tends to work better for most people. Human beings naturally experience jealousy, insecurity, and the desire to feel uniquely loved and valued by their partners. Marriage is complicated enough between two people without introducing additional relationships, competing emotional needs, and the potential for favoritism and resentment. Time, attention, and emotional energy are finite resources, and dividing them among multiple spouses inevitably creates challenges. I’m not saying polygamy can never work, but monogamy offers a simpler, more balanced arrangement that I believe is better suited to most people’s emotional needs.
