Itโ€™s been fabulous to watch Charlestown South PS and other schools in the EAST Network go from strength to strength, demonstrating that explicit teaching is effective for all students. This approach is now being promoted in all NSW Public Schools. smh.com.au/national/nsw/thisโ€ฆ

The evidence shows a consistent, whole-school approach to classroom management works best. Students know what to expect, teachers know what to do, schools are calmer. Thanks to St Clare's College, @DrTimMcDonald1 and @JennyDonovan2 for speaking with me. canberratimes.com.au/story/8โ€ฆ

Great episode addressing some MTSS misconceptions: "Screening & diagnostic don't overlap. Screeners must be short & predictive. Diagnostic tests are specific, usually not timed & are linked to instruction, telling you what to teach next. E.g. PAST is not a screener" @sstollar6
๐Ÿคฏ This is why Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) isn't working in YOUR school! ๐Ÿคฏ MTSS was designed to be a systemic model to merge general ed and special ed, aimed to PREVENT reading failure. ๐Ÿ’ญ Instead, we are doing a lot of INTERVENTION rather than PREVENTION. ๐Ÿค”

Have been in the Australian system for 14 months - first thing I would change is the stranglehold universities have on teacher education. So much ideology, so little how to teach effectively.

A concrete-to-abstract presentation on using concrete-pictorial-abstract as a progression within the same lesson, not as separate phases. Awesome @Brad_Nguyen_ ! @whatworksseries @ThinkForwardEdu #mathsconf
