DOUG WILSON : All the justices of the Supreme Court who voted for Roe are now deceased.
They have all appeared before Almighty God, without their robes, and have had to answer for their judicial crime.
Those citizens of Idaho who are pushing us to adopt this travesty (PROP. 1) have not yet died and have not yet appeared before the Judgment Seat. But they are going to.
As soon as the video of this sermon is uploaded, send it to as many Idahoans as you can think of. They need to know that on this coming election day, we are all voting in the presence of God. He is looking straight at us while we do so.
God in Heaven cares what you do this election day.
DOUG WILSON: Idaho's Prop 1 is truly a pig’s breakfast of a law.
Now having said this much, this is an issue where I feel most free to bind your consciences. If you are eligible to vote in Idaho, then you must do so, and you must vote no. And this public stand, from the pulpit, does not mean that Christ Church is now dabbling in politics. This is prophecy, not politics. Idaho is contemplating an expansion of what they think is their right to murder the innocent. This is a moral issue. It is a foundational moral issue. If this is not a moral issue, then there is no such thing as a moral issue.
It is in an entirely different category from an appeal to “vote for Murphy,” simply because Murphy and the pastor are fishing buddies. There used to be a time when candidates from the different political parties inhabited the same moral universe, and it was the part of true wisdom for churches to be very wary of involvement in partisan campaigns. This is no longer the case, and especially not on an issue like this one.
So—no. We are not bringing sectarian religious concerns into the political process. We are telling the political worldlings—politicians and. justices both—that fetal dismemberment is obnoxious to the God who is going to judge every mother’s son of them. All the justices of the Supreme Court who voted for Roe are now deceased. They have all appeared before Almighty God, without their robes, and have had to answer for their judicial crime. Those citizens of Idaho who are pushing us to adopt this travesty have not yet died and have not yet appeared before the Judgment Seat. But they are going to.
Unless providentially hindered, you need to bank your vote against this monstrosity. Vote early, or vote absentee, or vote on election day, but be sure to vote.
On top of that, if at all possible, take two of your friends with you when you go to vote.

Folks will justify simony by pointing out how much they’ve freely given. “Selling the word of God is only 3% of what I do!”

To force any poor man to prefer insurance to any other investment, at any given moment, was like stealing his boots, and then gravely giving him a wooden leg, on the chance of his some day breaking his leg. This was part of a quiet consistent argument, about the limits of precaution against present or potential misfortune.

Would you be surprised to know that most of church history would condemn practices commonplace in the church today? Seminary tuition, biblical counseling fees, and paywalls on theological content are all forms of one of the gravest sins: simony.

Imagine if in 1900 a group of smart people gave their (p)doom of "technology."
They deliberately didn't specify the particular technologies they were concerned about, nor the mechanisms of destruction, nor what they meant by "doom."
What purpose would this sloppiness serve?
Only one: to scare and intimidate the public into giving them power.
Obviously well-meaning people with concerns about how specific technologies could be specifically misused with specific kinds of bad results would name their specific concerns. (Even for a specific concern they probably wouldn't pretend they could assign a specific probability.) And they would name specific solutions to alleviate those concerns.
We should hold commentators to the same standard, as they talk about the incredibly broad phenomenon that people call "AI."
(p)doom is an intellectually worthless propaganda tool that should be used and repeated by no one.
