So this happened yesterday! Conducting in front of that many people at the Kennedy Center was terrifying and awesome. Love me some Tuba Christmas!

Hey all it's been a minute since I tweeted here! Is there a Mastodon instance for classical musicians that's not primarily about academia? I don't mean one excluding people in academia - just one where that's not the main thing talked about? If so please enlighten me. Thanks!

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Larry Rachleff. I only worked with him once (which happens to have been exactly 30 years today.) He profoundly changed me as a musician + a human in those two short weeks. Powerful stuff. I wrote about it: andrewhitz.com/blog/the-incr…

Pro-lifers don't like complexity. At 17 weeks my placenta detached and he was much too small. I thought I felt my baby's frantic attempts to breathe. My OBGYN advised me to terminate the pregnancy, there wasn't much time. But I couldn't.

On the push to ban some children’s books, @levarburton tells #TheView, “I’ll be absolutely candid and honest. It’s embarrassing that we are banning books in this country; in this culture; in this day and age.” “Read the books they’re banning. That’s where the good stuff is!”

John Tyler, America’s 10th president, was born in 1790. He has a living grandson. Read that again as many times as you need to fully absorb it.

This is a great visualization. The beginning of any new thing, when you don't even know what you don't know, is always the hardest. But we can't let that talk us into inaction because it always gets better once we get going.
