ICYMI - My piece for @Quillette tells you everything you need to know about Albo's "digital duty of care," which would give his government unprecedented control over the internet in Australia.
The idea is unsalvageable and the bill should be withdrawn.
Some highlights... 🧵
Jim Chalmers likes inflation because he hates savings and property.
As I said ahead of the last election:
The government, the greens, and the global left think that social media is rigged in favour of the right
That's why they don't see things like the digital duty of care as censorship.
They're incapable of introspection.
Economy's fine for people with home equity. But anyone who didn't "get in the market" 10 years ago is stuffed, probably forever, unless something big changes - which homeowners will never vote for, because they are doing fine. This is a big part of what's going on in politics.

Helen Haines lost both legs after being run down outside her Wangaratta office.
Within days, the Prime Minister, Governor-General, AFP, ASIO and a line-up of ministers were reading from the same script.
Social media is the problem, and the ‘Digital Duty of Care’ is the fix.
In many ways, Australia was as much a colony of Ireland as England.
Ireland, I’m unbelievably disappointed and disillusioned with you. I’m beginning to think it was all fake and that we are actually the most insincere fuckers in Europe. The thousand welcomes and the so-called “craic” all seem sickeningly fake to me now.
There’s a reason our most brilliant artists hated the place.
There comes a time when even a nation must look at itself honestly.
The Albanese government is cynically exploiting recent horrendous events to advance its digital duty of care online censorship agenda.

The digital duty of care must be totally abandoned. It cannot be saved by amendments - the basic idea is tyrannical.
My latest for @Quillette.
@TheIPA
Australia's proposed digital duty of care would require almost every online service, from social media and search to AI tools and news sites, to manage "all reasonably foreseeable risks" to users. The government frames it as consumer protection.
@AndrewIBushnell argues that the vague harm categories, design-feature rules and enforcement powers would push platforms towards over-compliance and a lowest-common-denominator internet. quillette.com/2026/10/15/aus…

The Albanese government's Digital Duty of Care laws would give regulators sweeping powers over online content, threatening free speech in Australia & setting a dangerous precedent for internet regulation worldwide.
