🚨 The Department for Transport got its accounts wrong by almost £20 BILLION. That comes directly from the National Audit Office. Seriously. Nearly £20bn of errors in the official value of Britain’s roads and railways. How on earth does a Government department get figures THAT wrong? And remember this is the SAME department that spent £251m on roads that will NEVER be built. Meanwhile, this Government keeps telling us there isn’t enough money… ❌ £330bn borrowed since July 2024 ❌ £70bn in tax rises announced ❌ Even more tax rises being considered Perhaps before demanding another penny from taxpayers… …they should get their own financial house in order. Our tax money is a joke to these people.

Politically homeless here. But briefly thought today, maybe the “new” tories have had chance to get off the treadmill, the status quo, and reflect where it all went wrong and look properly from the outside. Undoubtedly there’s been safe seat arrogance. Are they worth a punt?

Power cut ongoing, so been round to mum n dad’s eaten their food, used their shower, loaded up their washing machine, left my kid there and nicked their lamps. So lucky to have family nearby, one of the most valuable things about farming (not just for nicking stuff and childcare)

🚨Bridget Phillipson DESTROYED “Government money is taxpayers’ money.” Conservative MP Nigel Huddleston reminds Labour minister that every pound the government spends comes from taxpayers, as public frustration grows over rising taxes and how their money is redistributed.

For those of you who thought the visit from a Bedford Borough Council official to investigate our daughter Zoe’s (age 12) pretend teddy bear cafe was too ridiculous to be real, here is the arrival of official. This is totally legit. She really did show up at our property to investigate the illegal teddy bears having their coffee🧸🧸☕️☕️

Another dumb dumb with MP after his name. When you tax a business they raise their prices, so a tax on business is a tax on the consumer. This is school level economics. We are ruled by useless morons.
We taxed oil & gas giants' profits to make families and businesses better off. Reform and the Conservatives would cut taxes for oil & gas giants.

This 👇🏼 like vat tax on private schools, (the only nation that taxes education)… all the student politics greed & envy laws just reduce income revenue, & lose jobs! Imbecilic economics
The Laffer Curve strikes again. Rachel Reeves’s absurd increases to stamp duty have backfired after tax receipts from property sales above £5m fell by £541m in the 18 months following her 2024 budget when she raised the second-home stamp duty surcharge to 5%. Data from estate agents Knight Frank show that in the 18 months subsequent to the budget, the number of sales above £5m dropped by 14% from 2,569 to 2,208, when compared with the 18 months before the budget. Of course it is not just the stamp duty that is lost but also the economic activity that accompanies the property transactions. Reeves has just signed up to the Chartwell Speakers agency to sell speeches for money. Surely for anyone to buy a speech from her is a badge of idiocy?

Kaleb Cooper, the farm manager on Clarkson's Farm, worked out his own hourly rate from the farming side of his business and it came to fifty pence. He said so on a podcast. His books pay rather better. Kaleb is not a television character. He is a working contractor who was farming in the Cotswolds before the cameras came and will be when they go, and he has done the sums that most farmers do in their heads and keep to themselves. - Hourly rate from farming, by his own count: 50p. - Hourly rate for the woman who stacks the shelf his wheat ends up on as a loaf: at least £12.71. - Price of the loaf: about £1.40. - What the wheat in it earns the farmer: about 10p. - The farmer's profit on it, measured in 2022: 0.09p. The whole chain is paid before the man who grew the thing. The supermarket takes its margin, the miller his, the baker his, the haulier his, the fertiliser company its, and what is left when the harvest has been through all of those hands is the farmer's. His share has been shrinking for decades, because he is the only link who cannot pass the cost on. He cannot hold out for a better price for long either. The seed, the fertiliser and the diesel were paid for months before harvest, and grain costs money every week it sits in the shed. Selling direct is the one place it is different. A farmer who sells off his own farm, through his own shop, to a customer who drove there, keeps far more of the price. That is why Diddly Squat had queues out onto the road, while Clarkson's first year of actually farming the place made him a profit of £144. Kaleb is in his twenties and has three children and is one of the best farmers in Oxfordshire, and his trade pays him about a 25th of the legal minimum wage. The country wants its food cheap, and it has got exactly that.

Prepping for tomorrow night’s soup kitchen, Recently the pressures have got bigger, more service users, MANY more rough sleepers requiring duvets than we’ve ever experienced (been doing this 10 years). When will @GOVUK in particular @andyburnham tackle homelessness?

I know I rant and rave on here about farming and the economy but if the economy isn’t working nothing else can be fixed! And it’s not fixed by corporate sheisters filling gov pockets

Gov direction (and the mouthpieces they implore) is getting quite frankly ridiculous for farmers Do we want “tidy farms” to pass Red tractor tests, or do we want unkempt farms to do its thing for nature and habitats? What other sector has to work with such moving goalposts?

Can we stop the ridiculousness because farmers have people to feed, wildlife to look after whilst trying to make the numbers work, whilst some (many!) nobheads pontificate about something they know nothing about. Let farmers FARM, get out of their way!
