Austin’s ridiculous Project Connect Choo-choo Train that will never run takes down another local icon and creates a new food desert. Great job, everyone.

Has anyone else noticed that basic external hard drives have doubled in price in the last three years? I have to replace an 8TB external and the two that I bought in 2023, a Seagate and an Avolusion, are literally more than double the price right now. I’ve never seen that before.

Happy United States Grand Prix Day from Dave's Car ID Service! Every year eleven Formula 1 racing teams, and a couple hundred thousand of their fans from around the world, drop by for a visit to the Circuit of the Americas right here in little ol' Austin Texas.
It's quite the spectacle, even if the cars and the racing action have tamed down considerably since the glory days of insanely loud and high winding V8s and V10s. Grumble grumble.
Apologies for shaking my fist at the sky there. Still, it's pretty cool to have such a bigtime glamorpuss racing event just across town, and I'm happy to have attended several times. I also attended the US Grand Prix a couple times at its previous location, the Indy Motor Speedway, when I lived in Chicago. Back when them cars sounded like a 125 dB 20,000 RPM swarm of angry bees.
There I go nostalging again! But I guess that's kinda what Dave's Car ID Service is about. And in that spirit, today I'm featuring a few photos from the very first United States Grand Prix - December 12, 1959 at Sebring International Raceway in Sebring Florida. These photos are via the Revs Institute, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to preserving automotive history, and are from the Tom Burnside and Jerry McDermott Photograph Collections. Give Revs institute a follow on Instagram, and consider them for your annual tax exempt giving.
Anyway, to the victor goes the spoils! In the case of the inagural 1959 US Grand Prix, the victor was the legendary Kiwi Bruce McLaren. It was his first F1 win and, at age 22 years 3 months, he became the youngest driver ever to win an F1 race. That record would stand for more than 40 years.
In #1 he's in the pits wearing laurels with his trophy and his victorious Cooper-Climax T51. In #2, with the trophy girl and her wary chaperone. Note the laurels include some Florida citrus.
Jews are literally fleeing Canada for America. “But Trump!”
Tonight a group of 50 Canadian Jews arrived in Tulsa to see about living in the heartland of America.
They come from all different walks of life and all different parts of Canada. Their stories of the antisemitism each have experienced is harrowing but there is a sliver of hope.
This weeks Torah portion is Lech Lecha which means “Go forth”. THIS IS NOT A COINCIDENCE, THIS WAS MEANT TO BE.
Each of these families has made the difficult decision that their only option is to go forth. It is not an easy decision and the process is even harder but one thing is clear… they appreciate those who are trying to help.
They appreciate those who hear their calls for assistance and they dream of life in America. There is hope in their eyes at a time when they had thought all hope was gone. The Canadian government has failed them but in Tulsa they are seen, they are heard and they are valued.
These (and thousands of others) are the people that @SamuelBrownback, @jasonrapert, @ChristLawmakers, @SenRickScott and @GovStitt are asking @POTUS to help.
They need us and we shouldn’t let them down.
A reminder that the Democrats were the Covid lockdown people that wanted to be the future climate lockdown people. Look at this lunacy. It’s a perfectly beautiful autumn day in Austin, yet it comes with a SeVeRe WaRnInG. This tweet is also a warning… to never ever vote for them.
I repeat my call for a 14-strikes law. Yes, it’s sarcastic, but it’s still better than whatever this is.

I've been thinking about this Central Park trash-tossing troll because it's weird. This was clearly deliberate, but why? She was carrying garbage in a shopping bag? Trash collection is a nightmare in the city, but for sure she passed plenty of available bins on her way to the pond. Why?
New Yorker just caught a pack of immigrants openly treating Central Park like their personal landfill, dumping trash straight into the pond in broad daylight.
These people drag their garbage-dump mentality across the ocean, refuse to leave it behind, and make it obvious they have zero intention of integrating or respecting the place they chose to live.
"Elon Musk is so stupid" the communists like to say, meanwhile I don't know whether to scream or cry... I waited my whole life for this future and it's actually finally here.
I wonder how the genius AOC is feeling today.
