2025 study: Of 102 California AI companies that had raised at least $50M, women held just 15% of board seats. 43% had no women directors at all. Among companies with $50M to $99M in funding, nearly 2/3 had all-male boards. forbes.com/councils/forbesbu…

"Everyone is now preparing for what I call the “second round of hatred”: Marine Le Pen vs Jean-Luc Mélenchon. A recent study suggests that RN and LFI voters are both the most disliked by voters of other parties and the groups that dislike each other most. I fear the losing side — probably Mélenchon’s — will refuse to accept the result, plunging France straight back into violence." Philosopher André Comte-Sponville lexpress.envoy.gift/8dbKj3

This Forbes investigation is a must-read. Donald Trump pulled in roughly $1.4 billion from crypto in 2025, plus more than $200 million from real estate, and faced a projected tax bill north of $500 million. So his company donated the "development rights" to his Jupiter, Florida golf course to a land trust, argued the course was a natural habitat worth protecting, and kept right on running the club. Forbes estimates the write-off could land around $825 million. He has done this at least five times since 2005. New York's attorney general alleged two of those appraisals were inflated. In Doral, he claimed a deduction of up to $323 million, more than double what he paid for the entire resort. A month after the Jupiter deal, he sued the IRS. The settlement his own Justice Department signed bars claims against him over matters that "could be pending," language that appears broad enough to cover this year's taxes. A federal judge found the case was brought to manipulate the judicial process. And the man now running the IRS, who took the job as this deal was being assembled, has a home backing onto those same Jupiter fairways. This is absolutely ridiculous. Nobody should be able to use the presidency to write his own tax bill. forbes.com/sites/danalexande…

Scattered incidents in Nantes, Bordeaux, Marseilles today but relatively calm in Paris where the big march against the cost of living has ended without trouble so far. Rain may have helped but also a bigger police turnout. It is still early, however.

Polls predict that far-right leader Marine Le Pen — boosted by Saturday’s mayhem — will be elected president on May 2, despite potentially campaigning in an ankle tag after being convicted of embezzling European parliamentary funds. This would be the far right’s first ascent to power in any of Europe’s big three of Germany, France or the UK since 1945. She could face a financial crisis: France’s annual budget deficit has been stuck for years at about 5 per cent, borrowing costs have hit 24-year highs and no political solution is in sight. How did France reach the brink of ungovernability, and where might it go?”

On my way to covering the #ParisProtests, only to be sharing my Metro ride with Jean-Luc Melanchon, of the left wing La France Insoumise party. (Unless it’s a doppelgänger?). Police having finally agreed a route starting at Porte d’italie

Protests in Paris are authorised for the working class east end of the city, far from the wealthy west end and precincts where parliament and government ministries are located.
#canal16

Two ugly attacks from Trump this week on two female reporters simply doing their jobs. It speaks of his misogyny and contempt for a free press. I wrote earlier about the need for Washington journalists to defend each other. historyneverended.substack.c…

Some unexpected good news for a beleaguered French government. Despite deficit worries and violent social unrest, the US debt ratings agency Moody’s has maintained France’s credit rating at Aa3 – a notch higher than the other principal agencies. 1/
