As Community Planning Month comes to a close, I want to reflect on what neighborhood planning has meant to #ColumbiaHeightsDC, what it has produced, and what it means for DC 2050 and beyond. @ANC1A approved the resolution I introduced to recognize the month.🧵

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Earlier this year, we proposed legislation to enhance protection for victims and to help address troubling trends in domestic violence-related crimes in our city.
But legislation isn't enough. We must all work together to end the cycle of violence and protect survivors.
If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, there are resources available.

We are resharing this alert because third-party energy companies continue to target DC residents with aggressive sales practices.
Remember:
1️⃣ You're not required to show anyone your energy bill.
2️⃣ Companies claim they will save you money but often end up charging higher rates.

NEW: Meta will pay up to $129 million to DC for exploiting children with intentionally addictive social media.
Instagram and Facebook will adopt sweeping child safety protections to transform how social media platforms protect kids.
This is the largest big tech settlement ever.

I was thrilled to join the teachers, staff, parents, and neighbors this morning to welcome Tubman ES students to their new building and clap them in as they start the new school year. They even had a little processional from Tubman Field up Irving St. to the front entrance! 1/2
Hey, DC families! 👋🏾
We're 2 days away from the first day of school, and incredibly excited to welcome all our learners back into the classroom for another successful school year.
You’re invited to join us on Monday to clap our students back into school.

I had the pleasure of attending Tubman ES’s Back to School Bash, touring the new building and meeting administrators, teachers, and instructional aides. The new building is as stunning on the inside as it is on the outside! I’m excited for Tubman students to enjoy it this SY! 1/2
The fact that @dcpublicschools delivered this new building a year ahead of schedule is great🙌🏽! A win for #ColumbiaHeightsDC families. Huge thanks to my colleague @billyez2, parents, school officials, and agencies for their work on this; major thanks to the contractors/subs!

The Public Defender Service has weighed in on behalf of the D.C. man, arguing that allowing an eviction to proceed before a court has determined some level of guilt for a violent crime could raise constitutional concerns of self-incrimination and lack of a jury trial.

The federal government is moving to transfer control of the D.C. Armory, longtime home of the D.C. National Guard, over to D.C. The Armory is on the footprint of the RFK site, where the new Commanders stadium development will be built. But what happens with it is questionable.

Four years ago, I asked the residents of #ColumbiaHeightsDC's District 1A06 to put their trust in me to represent them. I have fought for them ever since because Columbia Heights is worth fighting for. That is why I am running for re-election to continue the work we started. 🧵
So, I look forward to earning every vote. And I look forward to hearing residents' priorities and talking through all the ways we can solve tough problems, get things done, and make government work so every #ColumbiaHeightsDC resident and family can thrive, and biz succeed. 5/6

This evening, I walked through my entire district to capture the stormwater drains and catch basins on every block. As we approach fall, I will be calling on @dcwater to clear these drains/basins of leaves, debris, and sediment, and to install guards to keep them clean. 1/6
