As Community Planning Month comes to a close, I want to reflect on what neighborhood planning has meant to #ColumbiaHeightsDC, what it has produced, and what it means for DC 2050 and beyond. @ANC1A approved the resolution I introduced to recognize the month.🧵
#ColumbiaHeightsDC is the neighborhood it is because of its people - all of its diverse communities - who have always come together, time and time again, to ensure its best days remain ahead of it and are determined by the people who call our 145-year-old enclave home. We will keep planning, keep growing, keep thriving, and keep building a better future for our current neighbors, future neighbors, and the District. 9/10
As chair of @ANC1A's public life and planning committee, I'm incredibly proud of the work we've done to carry forward the legacy of these citizen-planners and to ensure that every neighbor has a seat at the table as we have conversations about our future for more housing (and housing types), multimodal transportation, community facilities, commercial spaces, and more. Finally, thank you, @OPinDC, for all you do to keep the District moving this month and every month as you continue to plan and move DC and its communities/neighborhoods forward. 10/10

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Talib Shakir, a dedicated public servant who was tackling one of the most critical and challenging jobs in government. What a terrible tragedy.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Talib Shakir, Director of the Mayor’s Office on Returning Citizen Affairs.
We share our love, condolences, and prayers with Talib’s family and loved ones, the entire MORCA team, and all the members of our community relations teams who loved and learned from Talib.

#WeekWithoutDriving gives you an opportunity to experience the benefits of public transit.
From spending less time in traffic and saving money on gas, parking, and car maintenance to reaping the rewards of a more active lifestyle, you still have time to see for yourself why so many people choose public transit over driving.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Earlier this year, we proposed legislation to enhance protection for victims and to help address troubling trends in domestic violence-related crimes in our city.
But legislation isn't enough. We must all work together to end the cycle of violence and protect survivors.
If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, there are resources available.
