Bamporiki’s return to public service carries a message beyond one individual; a setback need not be the end of one’s contribution, but restoration of trust must come with responsibility. A second chance is meaningful when it is matched by integrity, humility and measurable service to the public. This is how personal reform can become part of a wider national culture of accountability and progress. Rwanda’s future requires both high standards and the belief that people can learn, change and contribute again.

Full Video 📹 Exclusive interview with Joseph KABILA KABANGE, President of FRN, former President of DRC, conducted on October 23, 2026. Former Democratic Republic of Congo President Joseph Kabila discusses his political legacy, from inheriting severe structural challenges upon taking office at age 29 in 2001 to his peaceful transfer of power to President Félix Tshisekedi in 2019, while addressing his recent return to the political forefront as the leader of the newly formed Front pour la Refondation de la Nation (FRN). He sheds light on why he declared the country "in danger," detailing the triggers behind the transition from the Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC) to the FRN, and outlining the coalition's core objectives, demands, and the context of its armed struggle. Furthermore, Kabila tackles heavy accusations from Kinshasa regarding the coalition's alleged allegiance to Rwanda and territorial balkanization, clarifying the FRN's true stance on national unity and sovereignty. The conversation also explores critical regional and domestic security issues, including the FRN's role in the ongoing Doha negotiations and its commitment to assuming the rights and obligations of the former AFC. Kabila evaluates Kinshasa's proposed "National Dialogue," addressing international concerns over its lack of inclusivity, and revisits the lingering security threat posed by the FDLR as a 30-year root cause of the regional conflict, offering his perspective on how to finally achieve its eradication. Finally, he looks ahead to the future of DRC governance, questioning the feasibility of credible elections by 2028 under current management, while sharing personal reflections on his biggest political regret and identifying the fundamental taboos about the Congo that must be demystified to help the nation break its long-standing cycle of conflict. Interview conducted by Teddy Mazina and Bojana Coulibaly for Conspiracy Tracker Great Lakes.

Replying to @AMugenzi
@AMugenzi , As a genocide denier, you have absolutely nothing to defend yourself with. We have said it many times: you are a genocide denier who used the BBC as a platform to amplify the voices of genocidaires. Even after leaving the BBC, you have not changed. You are still the same person. There is nothing for you to justify or defend. We know who you are.
I would like to thank the Germany-based Kinyarwanda Real Talk Channel for conducting an in-depth interview with me almost three years after my retirement from the BBC Great Lakes. I hope the interview will help Rwandans understand who I am. It enabled me to respond to the government smear campaign led by Minister @DrDamascene , even though I retired from service nearly three years ago. It enabled me to refute the lie circulated by the Government of Rwanda that I was responsible for the BBC’s use of the term “Rwanda genocide” rather than “genocide against the Tutsi,” the terminology promoted by the Rwandan government. I returned to my earlier life as a freelancer for BBC Swahili, when my Tutsi appearance gave me away on trips amid heightened tensions between Hutus and Tutsis following the RPF/RPA invasion in October 1990. I recounted how my journalism affected my 3 sisters; they were targeted during the genocide because they were related to a brother accused of collaborating with the RPF rebels. Two died in the wilderness. The militias in my village hung photographs of me on trees and pierced them with spears, cursing because they could not find me. After serving 10 years in prison, one of them came to our home to apologise. When I asked him whether he could have killed me, he replied, “Yes”. When I asked why, he said they had been told I was collaborating with RPF rebels. I recounted how, after a reconciliation meeting in Kigali in 2007, my manager advised me to acquire British nationality. He said that, based on the meeting he had attended, he had concluded the government did not want me there. I also recounted surviving a 2009 INTORE plot to have me dismissed during the genocide’s 15th anniversary. It coincided with the Great Lakes service’s suspension in April after it rejected the government’s demand to suppress a programme featuring Hutus who opposed collective apologies for the genocide against the Tutsi as a path to reconciliation. The government called the programme Tutsi genocide denial. I recounted how, in 2014, Rwandan authorities used the BBC Two documentary ‘Rwanda Untold Story’ as a pretext to suspend the Great Lakes service indefinitely, even though it had no role in producing the documentary. I said they did so because the service had become a thorn in their disinformation strategy. I discussed my mental well-being. The persistent challenges of covering Rwanda ultimately affected my mental health, and I was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). On the advice of mental health professionals, I had to leave. I was unable to discuss my PTSD in detail because of restrictions in the statement of agreement I signed with the BBC, after my managers had distanced themselves from me. However, page 1 of the Human Rights Watch report “Join Us or Die”: Rwanda’s Extraterritorial Repression accurately describes my circumstances at the time of my retirement. When I met Clementine de Montjeye, a senior Great Lakes researcher at Human Rights Watch, on 22 August 2022, I was still taking medication for PTSD prescribed by a psychiatrist at Memorial Hospital and carefully following the psychologist’s advice at Erith Hospital. I didn’t realise that, as she listened, Clementine was also observing me: “When a Rwandan journalist living in London, United Kingdom, sat down on a bench in a public park, in August 2022, the first thing he said, after nervous introductions, was: “My wife didn’t want me to come. We have to be careful.” His eyes darting around to check if anyone was eavesdropping, he explains how some of his relatives in Rwanda are under surveillance and have been marginalized because of his work. In London, he lives afraid and isolated, and has suffered from panic attacks and depression. He has a flak jacket and security cameras at home. “I’ve stopped attending any gatherings of Rwandans. I never invite Rwandans around to my house anymore. But now, I am attacked online, he said.”

🚨𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐄𝐒 𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐊𝐄𝐄𝐏 𝐂𝐋𝐈𝐌𝐁𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐃𝐔𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐘 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐒, 𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐋𝐔𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐎𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐆: 📌 Funds mobilized by international actors have yielded little visible result. 📌 Specialized medical infrastructure for #Ebola patients remains scarce. 📌 Medical practitioners frequently strike over months of unpaid arrears, and the latest case was reported in Bunia. 📌 More than $700 million in funding intended to fight Ebola in the DRC remains unaccounted for after a verification exercise failed to trace its whereabouts. 📌 In Tshopo province this Saturday, a nurse was killed and a health worker seriously injured after being attacked while responding to an Ebola alert. 📌 This follows many incidents targeting medical practitioners in charge of the Ebola epidemic and its infrastructure, some of which were torched. 🚨 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐬, 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲? 📌 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞:: Every epidemic is a disaster for any country, as it strains management. Imagine a country with almost no leadership! 📌 Attacking medical infrastructure violates moral principles that leaders should have taught. Imagine a country with no effective leaders like the DRC. 📌 For those who claim to be unpaid, the grievance is evident. Funds that should have been injected into salaries and medical supplies remain unaccounted for. 📌 Belgian authorities searched several properties linked to DRC President Félix Tshisekedi and members of his family as part of a money laundering investigation. 📌 In general, when corruption is mentioned, the DRC comes first, as hardly a day passes without reports of it in DRC institutions. 📌 So Ebola cases may keep climbing, not only in the #DRC but across the continent, as Nigeria recently recorded a case. 📌 Do not be surprised if it continues elsewhere, because its epicenter, the DRC, is struggling to contain it. #ToutPourLaPatrie #CongolaisTelema

The security challenges in eastern DRC affect more than one community or country. Addressing the FDLR threat requires regional cooperation, accountability, and a genuine commitment to protecting civilians. High Commissioner Tinyiko George Hlungwane’s remarks highlight why these concerns should remain part of serious diplomatic engagement aimed at building trust and achieving lasting stability.
South African High Commissioner to Rwanda, Tinyiko George Hlungwane cautions #DRC over the full implementation of the Washington Peace Accords and its continued support to the genocidal group, #FDLR which he admits constitutes an existential threat on Rwanda. The @UN Group of Experts has documented Tshisekedi’s funding and arming the #FDLR, despite the DRC’s commitment under the peace accord to neutralize the genocidal armed group. Lasting peace and stability in the Great Lakes region require the effective neutralization of the #FDLR and the full implementation of the commitments made under the peace agreement. @CyrilRamaphosa @PresidencyZA @Presidence_RDC @PatrickMuyaya @ali_naka @US_SrAdvisorAF @AsstSecStateAF
