In response to the habeas corpus petition filed by VOCAL Africa and our partners over the enforced disappearance of Tanzanian national Twaha Mwaipaya, the High Court has directed @IG_NPS, @DCI_Kenya and OCS Ruai to produce him, alive or dead in court on Monday, November 2nd, at 11:00 AM, as we stand firm in demanding total state accountability and an end to extrajudicial abductions.

Heavy rains along Kenya's coast have caused flooding in Tana River County.
In Tana Delta, Tulu and Minjila dams have overflowed, sending water into villages and homes.
302 households have been displaced and a further 3,156 households affected.
In neighbouring Lamu County, some homes in Hindi and Witu are also starting to flood.
Of the 302 displaced households, 175 have so far received food, tarpaulins and blankets from the county and national government and the remaining families are expected to be reached soon.
Our teams remain on the ground alongside partners, assessing needs and standing with affected families as the rains continue.

Charity Ngilu shattered the glass ceiling in 1997 when she became Kenya’s first female presidential candidate, running a memorable campaign under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) with the slogan “Masaa Ni Ya Ngilu!”
Ngilus campaign machinery had brains like Prof Anyang Nyongo, Dr Apollo Njonjo, Dr Richard Leakey, Justus Nyang’aya and Tony Gachoka, among others.
In that election, SDP had 90 men and 13 women parliamentary candidates. 15 of them got elected into Parliament including 2 women - Ngilu and Beth Mugo.
In my opinion, this party, its agenda and its candidates stand out as one of the most progressive moments in our democracy.

PRESS STATEMENT
@HakiKNCHR has expressed grave concern regarding the reported abduction of Tanzanian political activist Twaha Salim Mwaipaya in Machakos County.
According to reports received by the Commission, Mr. Mwaipaya was traveling in a taxi on Sunday afternoon, October 25, 2026, to visit friends in Kamulu. At approximately 2:00 p.m., his vehicle was intercepted by unidentified individuals. Captors forcefully removed him from the taxi and drove him away in a three-vehicle convoy. His current whereabouts remain unknown. Mr. Mwaipaya had fled Tanzania for Kenya in 2025 out of fear for his life and safety.
The Commission warned that this incident reflects a alarming pattern of enforced disappearances, abductions, and unlawful cross-border transfers targeting individuals living or seeking sanctuary in Kenya. It noted several similar cases over the past two years, including the gunpoint abductions of Tanzanian nationals Maria Tsehai Sarungi and Mshabaha Hamza in Nairobi. Furthermore, in October 2024, Kenya’s Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary acknowledged the repatriation of four Turkish refugees following their abduction in Nairobi, and in November 2024, Ugandan opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye was reportedly abducted in Nairobi and forcibly transferred to Uganda.

We have been enjoined as interested parties in a habeas corpus application by @VOCALAfrica_ seeking the production of Twaha Mwaipaya, reportedly abducted on 25 October in Kamulu, Machakos County.
Kenya has a duty to protect everyone within its borders, including those seeking refuge. Articles 28, 29 and 51 of the Constitution, the 1951 Refugee Convention and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights affirm these obligations. #FreeTwahaMwaipaya

Kenya must be a place of safety, not a hunting ground for those fleeing persecution.
From Twaha Mwaipaya to Dr Kizza Besigye, reported abductions and attempted abductions raise urgent questions about Kenya’s duty to protect those seeking refuge.
