Hi 🙈
Replying to @Bibliovibes
I’m Tess, a die hard romance and fantasy fan. I love mythology (Greek, Roman, Viking.. you name it) and can’t wait to connect with fellow book lovers here. PS: I got into African contemporary fiction three years ago and I’m obsessed 🙈.

After reading about the circumstances surrounding the death of Javits Frimpong, my heart was filled with anger and sadness. Go back and watch the short video released by the police, showing Javits running while another boy chased him. My initial thought was that he was chased down the street and then shot. But he had already been shot and was still running afterwards. The most heartbreaking part is that he was reportedly already bleeding from the gunshot wound as he ran for his life. Yet, he was still being pursued. Imagine the fear, the pain, and the desperation of a child trying to escape death. With adrenaline rushing through his body, he kept running, hoping to find safety. No child should ever have to experience such terror, let alone die in such a cruel and painful manner. It is heartbreaking beyond words. 💔

It's not damage control. It's pointing out facts that you keep deliberately ignoring. Mya lied about how many books she read, not about having the learning disability. Her parents were in denial about her difficulties, which is a real issue across many communities. And since when does having a learning disability make someone stupid? There are plenty of Black American children on the show portrayed as rowdy, disrespectful, and academically struggling. Am I supposed to interpret that as the show portraying Black Americans as stupid and badly behaved? No, because individual characters don't represent entire ethnic groups. You're so desperate to find an anti African stereotype that you're inventing one yourself.

What? Okay, you should watch that entire episode. Because they did not depict that The girl, Mya Okafor was proven to be strong in math and science, but struggling with reading due to dyslexia. When brought up to the parents they get defensive about it & deny that she has it, and Melissa makes a point of saying there’s nothing wrong with her and she’s a fantastic student. Later she shares her own reading struggles and shows Mya ways to handle it. That’s a specific learning issue + parental denial, not “Africans are dumb.” The show doesn’t frame her that way at all.

A mother's love and a father's hope, Snatched from their grip by a foul rogue. The destiny of a young immigrant lad, Killed in another man's land. I felt quite emotional creating this tribute art of Javits Frimpong on All Saints' Day. He didn't deserve what happened to him. No one does. May he rest peacefully in heaven. #JusticeForJavitsFrimpong

This is why I wholeheartedly believe in punishing parents for the shit their kids do. Because why is your 15 year old roaming the streets early in the morning with a gun. Now somebody mama gotta burry their child cause folks refuse to raise these lil delinquents they birthing

To know when an adult is touching them inappropriately

Not only was the Juke never actually safe, it being unsafe wasn’t because of Grace it was because of the klan and that could not have been made more clear. There was a reason Chinese dancers were included in the scene yall love so much!

Well no. And Coogler addressed this when the movie came out. Xenophobia is coloring yalls interpretation and leading to these racially shallow and simplistic takes. The juke was never a Black safe space, the KKK sold it to them and was coming for them in the morning regardless
Rewatching Sinners and I realize the biracial woman and the Chinese woman were the downfall of the group by giving the white vampires access to the black safe space. There’s something in that
