Scientists are decoding clouds from space, improving weather and climate predictions using NCAS’s research aircraft and the EarthCARE satellite. The VERIFY project will calibrate the satellite, which is looking at how clouds, aerosols and solar radiation interact to affect the Earth’s atmosphere.
When we talk about climate, weather and air, we make climate science more accessible, and inspire future scientists.
While participating in New Scientist Live in London and Explore Our Planet in Cardiff, we took a creative approach to explain air pollution and climate change, which sparked curiosity and made these complex issues more accessible.
Among the researchers who participated in these events were Eliza Karlowska and Matt Baker. They share their reflections on the importance of talking about science to people of all ages in our latest article: ncas.ac.uk/creative-ways-to-…

Last week, we took part in the Explore Our Planet (Archwiliwch Ein Planed) event at @Techniquest in Cardiff, organised in partnership with @NERCscience.
We gave talks on air pollution and climate, and engaged with hundreds of young climate heroes at our stand, where we built mosaics of climate stripes using climate data from Cardiff and collected pledges for climate-friendly everyday actions.
The finished mosaics will be donated to local community spaces to spark conversations about climate change in Cardiff and beyond.
Thank you to everyone who got involved!

On 12 - 14 October, we joined forces with @NCEOscience to talk about the air we share with thousands of people at New Scientist Live 2024 in London.
Our stand featured a chromatography experiment, an interactive globe, and a pledge board. Over the three days, we shared countless conversations and tackled interesting questions about air pollution and working in science. It was an incredible opportunity to engage with so many people, and see the excitement and intrigue in their eyes - thank you to everyone who stopped by to spend some time with us!
