The only person who gets to decide if something was traumatic, is the person who experienced the event.

The patient who you think is being difficult, angry or oversensitive is pretty much always protecting you from the extent of what they are feeling and what they’ve been through.
Managing one’s clinician so they don’t feel overwhelmed or panic is a real thing and exhausting.
Well, that’s the cross stitch part of my bookmark done, and it has a rather important message. 📚🌈

MH professionals have a tendency to assume that if you go to hospital voluntarily following an attempt on your life (even with significant pressure and persuasion from others), then you didn’t really want to die. This however is rather flawed in some cases.
1/
my mind was still entirely focused upon how to achieve my wish to die, despite it appearing on the surface that I was seeking help/didn’t really want to die.
And that’s how easily behaviours can be misread if you don’t know what someone’s thinking really is. Yet if you
6/
ask me, I’d say what I was doing was all rather logical in relation to my end goal - so why can’t clinicians see that? 🤔

The nurse said he didn’t need my permission to share confidential information. He used the threat of a section as leverage: an abuse of professional power. iam1in4.com/2018/11/abuse-of…
Ah yes, the difference between expected practice, and reality👇🏻. They also asserted to Police I had capacity without seeing me...🤦🏼♀️

I had a lot of flashbacks to the first time I was extubated in ITU last night.
I remember not wanting to open my eyes as I had no idea where I was or what was happening. And feeling like I was choking because of my tube, so I kept trying to reach to pull it out of my mouth,
1/
but staff kept taking hold of my hands and pulling them away from my mouth.
I can’t tell you how much I wished they’d have told me where I was, who was around me, and what was in my mouth.
Instead they just kept telling me to open my eyes, and pushing my tube back down my
2/
throat until they ultimately gave in and removed it with me never opening my eyes.
Maybe they didn’t think I’d remember much of it, but I do, and some more info at the time would have made the whole thing less traumatic.
