The only person who gets to decide if something was traumatic, is the person who experienced the event.

The patient who you think is being difficult, angry or oversensitive is pretty much always protecting you from the extent of what they are feeling and what they’ve been through. Managing one’s clinician so they don’t feel overwhelmed or panic is a real thing and exhausting.

The nurse said he didn’t need my permission to share confidential information. He used the threat of a section as leverage: an abuse of professional power. iam1in4.com/2018/11/abuse-of…

Suicidal people deserve better than to be told the main reason they shouldn’t kill themselves is because of how it might affect others. Suicidal people deserve love and help, not guilt trips. Suicidal people deserve to feel like their life is worth living, worth fighting for.

"Resilience" is used to blame people for asking for help. Struggling with flashbacks is not a lack of resilience. Feeling distressed about abuse is not a lack of resilience. Being suicidal is not a lack of resilience. We have only survived so much because of how resilient we are.

#Rigidity/#inflexibility is a common #autism trait. It is often seen as a problem, but it can be extremely #advantageous. More: thegirlwiththecurlyhair.co.u…

#Oliverscampaign I have just been sent this message. This is exactly why The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Autism and Learning Disability Awareness for all NHS and social care staff is so important

Growing up masking your autism is like suppressing who you are. It’s using all your energy to pretend to be someone who your peers and the world will accept. Hiding the parts of yourself which are too ‘extreme’ but these are also the parts which make you feel happier.

Look what miracles occur when clinicians change their communication style a little and make an effort to continue engagement with me rather than writing of the session and blaming me - session 2👇🏻

Some nurses abuse patients and love it. This sort of thing for example👇🏻 I’ve been in hospital and terrified of the harm they might inflict upon me given their access to drugs and obvious disdain for me. I have had physical health neglected. Then the verbal abuse. It’s all grim.

The combo of 1) a new ICD-11 coming out and massively expanding the likelihood of character assassinating people who are suffering hugely but whose pain refuses to fit into the framework of ‘mild’ mood disorders 2) Gen Z’s pain and ability to speak Truth to Power is terrifying

6 months ago Beth's Responsible Clinician at The Priory Llanarth Court, was recommending she needed to go to Rampton High Secure because she was so dangerous. Today instead, she's fishing with some of her amazing care team from @Mersey_Care #happy

Excited to share one of the very first experimental studies on the impacts of potential #gender (stereotype) and gender-modification of autistic characteristics, on the recognition of #autism features. Great teamwork led by @WillClinPsy @liz_pellicano onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

The number of patients with very clear psychotic illnesses and mood disorders who “graduate” to my field of Assertive Outreach with previous diagnoses of personality disorder, drug induced psychosis and other labels used to reduce access to services is astonishing

Reflecting on my clinical experience in looking after care of young people w psychosis in SE London. Young men w mania can present as irritable, with other more subtle signs of illness. This is sometimes missed, and described as "antisocial personality disorder". Question 1/2
