Today on Studio 2:
Does pop culture kinda suck now? Or has our nostalgia-tinged pessimism just been sent into overdrive?
We discuss with Spencer Kornhaber from the Atlantic (@skornhaber).

Sixers are shooting 30% from three (25th), 33% from midrange (28th) and 60% at the rim (27th).
The shot profile is good. The shot making has been bad.
Given the talent I'm pretty confident the offense will turn around.
To be 3-1 in the meantime is a nice bonus.

Here are Kevin Willard’s full comments on the Big 5 tonight. He criticized the Inquirer’s reporting while essentially also confirming the details of the story in his answers.

Obviously way too small a sample to draw meaningful inclusions.
But at the very least we can say the dominance hasn't been driven by three-point variance.
Sixers are shooting 23.8% from three with the starters on the court. Opponents are shooting 25%.
If you go back and read old newspaper recaps of NBA games, tons of guys used to talk like this (say what was actually on their mind).
The spread of visual media made everyone more image conscious and cautious.
More of this please
Per NBA stats...
The Sixers shot 5-22 on wide-open threes (22.7%)
The Knicks shot 7-13 on wide-open threes (53.8%)
Here's where the NBA keeps this tracking stats btw:

Last night was a good encapsulation of this.
Jo looked a little lost in the flow of the offense. He doesn't naturally see the game through a role-player lens...which led to some record-scratch moments.
And yet...his interior defense is absolutely irreplaceable on this team.
With the Tacko Fall news, I believe the Sixers have now rostered three of the four tallest players in NBA history.
I really don't know why we're using conspiracy voice here. When Rubin sold his stake he literally said he would do whatever he could to help the Sixers. And everyone, including the league office, agreed he was no longer beholden to NBA rules on player contact.
“League sources have been wondering if former Sixers minority owner Michael Rubin flipped LeBron — convinced him to sign with the Sixers at Fanatics Fest.”

Two things can be true:
1. Joel Embiid's preferred play style isn't an ideal fit with the uptempo, read-and-react style the Sixers want to play.
2. Joel Embiid is indispensable to this team.
Or to put it another way...you can live with Embiid being less nimble and more deliberate than the ideal, run-and-gun center because
a) You need his rim protection
b) You need his floor spacing
c) In the biggest moments and games his iso scoring ability has unique value
