Japan negotiates a multidimensional agreement with Bangladesh that includes investments, trade and work visas.
Meanwhile, Indian nationalists, who weren’t even invited to the meeting, have started crying. Why not India Saar? Why Kanglus Saar? Indians want visas too 😂
🇧🇩🇯🇵 BIG-B: Can Japan Help Turn Bangladesh into the Next Asian Manufacturing Powerhouse? A thread🧵
8/8 Bangladesh needs Ambition!
We must manufacture more, capture more value, create skilled jobs and build industries that can compete globally.
BIG-B is an opportunity to transform Bangladesh’s economic future. Japan can be our strategic partner. But Bangladesh must do the hard work.
The goal is not simply a richer Bangladesh. It is an INDUSTRIAL Bangladesh. 🇧🇩🇯🇵
7/8 Japan brings capital, technology, industrial expertise and access to global markets which will expand supply chains.
Bangladesh brings a large workforce, a growing domestic market and strategic geography.
The partnership will deliver more than foreign investment. It will create Bangladeshi suppliers, technical expertise and domestic industrial capacity. All win-win for both!
6/8 What is missing? Challenges ?
We need reliable electricity, skilled workers, efficient bureaucracy & customs, predictable & stable regulations that investors can trust.
Vietnam did not industrialize with geography alone. It built an ecosystem where manufacturing could thrive. And aggressively found investors!
5/8 Our greatest strategic advantage is GEOGRAPHY. Bangladesh sits at the crossroads of South Asia and Southeast Asia.
With the Bay of Bengal in our territory, we have the opportunity to connect Nepal, Bhutan, and the wider ASEAN region.
Geography is an asset. We need to learn to monetize it.
4/8 Bangladesh must move beyond garments.
Electronics, automotive components, pharmaceuticals, machinery and higher-value manufacturing has to be our next target.
We cannot stay a nation of cheap labour forever. We must become a nation that manufactures, innovates and captures value; just like Vietnam 🇻🇳
3/8 Matarbari is central to Japan’s ambition.
A deep-sea port, connected to the Dhaka–Chattogram industrial corridor, will transform Bangladesh’s access to global shipping networks. This will also shorten lead time and improve competitiveness for exports.
But we must build industries around the port, not merely infrastructure to move imported goods. Dhaka is congested and Chittagong is too expensive. Matarbari & Coxs Bazaar offers another industrial zone to support Dhaka - Chittagong corridor.
2/8 Let us look at Vietnam.
Decades of Japanese investment in infrastructure development, technology and global logistics helped transform Vietnam into a manufacturing powerhouse today. Private and public investments from Japan made this possible.
There is no reason Bangladesh cannot follow the same path. The equation is similar for 🇧🇩🇯🇵
1/8 Japan’s interest in Bangladesh is NOT charity. It is strategic location & economics.
Through BIG-B (Bay of Bengal Industrial Growth Belt), Tokyo sees Bangladesh as a manufacturing, logistics and trade hub connecting South Asia with Southeast Asia. And the opportunity is enormous.
But it's also strategic. Presence in Bangladesh allows Japan to counter Mikitary threat from China and protect their critical sea lanes.

Indian boots on the ground were not needs for Bangladesh’s liberation. By December 1971, the Mukti Bahini had already broken the backbone of the Pakistani Army through nine months of relentless guerilla war.
General Osmani predicted we could have liberated Bangladesh within another six months without direct Indian intervention. General Khaled Mosharraf & Zia were also equally confident.
India helped us win sooner, but our victory was inevitable. Bangladesh 1st ♦️

No matter how much you Bangladeshis lie, you can't change the fact that Without Indian intervention Mukti Bahini would not have achieved victory by December 1971. Without Indian intervention, the liberation war would have continued for decades.

This G25 PCA shows Bengali Muslim samples from Sylhet, SE, North, NW and Central Bangladesh clustering closely, reflecting a shared Bengali genetic continuum. Some Sylheti Muslim samples shift slightly towards West Bengal Brahmins but remain within the wider Bengali cluster.
“if Bangladesh, that super critical point in the Bay of Bengal, gets seized by China, our sea lanes are totally screwed, right?
Prime Minister Takaichi even mentioned it on her X, but this Bangladesh support fits the evolved FOIP (Free and Open Indo-Pacific) model so cleanly” 👏
