YOUNG BRITS LEFT BEHIND
Nearly a million young people are not in work, education or training. The Prime Minister's answer? Closer ties with Europe and cheaper labour from abroad.
Andrew Bowie calls it absolutely mad. He is right. Train and hire our own young people first.
PM STOPS SHORT OF BACKING 15-YEAR SETTLEMENT WAIT
Prime Minister Andy Burnham told ITV's Good Morning Britain that "settlement is a right to be earned" and blamed the so-called "Boris wave" of long-term visa arrivals, but would not commit to Shabana Mahmood's proposed 15-year wait for indefinite leave to remain. CGTN Europe quoted him saying the government stands by the principles the Home Secretary has set out, with a final decision due soon.

SETTLEMENT CRACKDOWN SOFTENS
Asked on Sky News whether she backs a 15-year wait for permanent residency, Angela Rayner wouldn't say yes. She has already called the plan un-British.
Now the Home Secretary's reforms look set to be watered down to head off a Labour rebellion.
EL HIERRO SENDS 471 MIGRANTS TO GRAN CANARIA
RTVE reported that 471 migrants were moved from El Hierro to Gran Canaria on Sunday on a ferry chartered for the transfer, after a fresh rise in cayuco arrivals on the island. RTVE Canarias said the transfers are being sped up to stop the island's reception resources collapsing, while ACFI Press reported that Canary Islands president Fernando Clavijo has written to Pedro Sánchez asking for six urgent measures.

BICESTER CAMP FIGHT
Villagers near the old MoD Bicester site are suing the Home Office. Their best legal hope? Newts, bats and badgers.
Ministers fast-tracked a camp for up to 1,256 men with no local say. When wildlife law is a village's only defence, the system is broken.
HUNDREDS MARCH IN GOSPORT OVER SMALL BOATS
BBC News reported that about 400 people marched through Gosport on Sunday from the Haslar Immigration Removal Centre to the town centre, in protest at small boat migrants being brought ashore in the area. Footage shared by Daily Echo reporter Ross Marshall shows marchers carrying Union and St George's flags with police alongside, and Hampshire Police said the protests passed without incident and with no arrests.

EVEN LABOUR MPS WANT BORDER CONTROL
Labour's Preet Kaur Gill says constituents constantly tell her they want tough action and secure borders. She calls the billions spent housing illegal arrivals "outrageous".
Ministers are out of excuses. Close the hotels and deport.
LABOUR MP BACKS HOME SECRETARY'S MIGRATION CURBS
Labour MP Preet Kaur Gill told GB News that Labour MPs should stop trying to water down Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood's plans to curb legal migration and back them in full. GB News reported that Gill said working-class voters from every background want the borders secured and illegal migration tackled, and that her message to Mahmood was "keep going".

CEUTA MIGRATION PROTEST REACHES MADRID
El Debate reported that a march organised by the Ceuta group Mujeres Caballas went from Atocha to Spain's Congress in Madrid today, demanding a return to normality nearly 90 days after the mass migrant entries into Ceuta. Europa Press reported that Ceuta's president Juan Vivas joined the protest, calling the situation in the city "absolutely unsustainable".

RAYNER WON'T RULE IT OUT
Asked again and again on the BBC this morning whether Britain should go back to EU free movement, Housing Secretary Angela Rayner would not give a straight yes or no.
Labour's 2024 manifesto said in black and white there would be no return to freedom of movement. Now she wants an "honest conversation" about the "trade-offs" and to "put that to the people at a general election".
The British people already had that conversation in 2016. The answer was to take back control of our borders.
A promise that only lasts until the next manifesto is not a promise. It is a holding position.

THE RED LINE HAS A SELL-BY DATE
Labour MP Joe Powell told GB News this morning that the ban on EU free movement "stands for the duration of this parliament", and that at the next election it is "right and proper that we look again".
So the manifesto pledge was never a principle. It was a timetable.
Andy Burnham has already said free movement will not be a red line in talks with Brussels. Now his MPs are openly preparing the ground for it.
The British people voted to take back control of our borders. That decision is not Labour's to quietly unpick.

3,600 TAKEAWAYS CAN SPONSOR SKILLED WORKER VISAS
The Telegraph reported that more than 3,600 takeaway shops in Britain are licensed to sponsor skilled worker visas, including over 1,000 in London, even though the visas require a £41,700 salary in a sector where median pay is just under £30,000. GB News discussed the findings, which shadow home secretary Chris Philp called "shocking".

TAKEAWAY VISA LOOPHOLE
More than 3,600 takeaway shops in Britain are licensed to sponsor "skilled worker" visas, according to Telegraph analysis of official figures. Over 1,000 are in London alone, including at least 100 chicken, kebab and pizza outlets.
The rules say a skilled worker must earn at least £41,700 a year. Median pay in restaurants and takeaways is just under £30,000. Nearly 400 of the London licence holders have fewer than five staff, and some have just one.
A route meant for genuine skills has become a back door for cheap labour that undercuts British workers. The Home Office should audit every sponsor licence and revoke the ones that don't add up.
ASYLUM SEEKER'S JAIL TERM RAISED TO FOUR YEARS
GB News reported that the Court of Appeal has increased the sentence of Afsar Safi, an asylum seeker who arrived by small boat in 2021, from two years and six months to four years for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl at a London immigration hostel. Lord Justice Jeremy Baker said the original sentence did not adequately reflect the offender's criminality, and GB News reported that Safi's asylum claim has been refused but he is awaiting the outcome of an appeal.
818 MIGRANTS REACH EL HIERRO IN 24 HOURS
Televisión Canaria reported that 818 people arrived on El Hierro aboard seven cayucos in the space of 24 hours, with the last two boats reaching the port of La Restinga on Saturday morning. Europa Press reported that Salvamento Marítimo intercepted three of the boats overnight, carrying 78, 102 and 72 people, and escorted them into La Restinga.

FREE MOVEMENT BACK ON THE TABLE
Andy Burnham has told the Sunday Times he wants an "honest discussion" about Britain rejoining EU free movement, the rule that let any of 450 million EU citizens come and live here.
Labour's 2024 manifesto ruled it out. In 2016, 17.4 million people voted to take back control of our borders.
Now, barely 100 days into the job, the Prime Minister is drawing up options and calling the old system a "revolving door".
Migration is already far beyond anything the public ever voted for. Opening yet another door is the last thing this country needs.
Britain made its decision. Labour should respect it.
