This sequence shows exactly how top hitters create a powerful, on-plane swing that crushes the ball consistently. 1. Launch/Ready Position: Front shoulder down, hands up high This is your explosive "set" point — usually right as your front foot plants. Keep the front shoulder slightly lower (or level at worst) and hands stacked up near your back ear/shoulder. It builds early power, creates natural tilt, and gives you the flexibility to handle high heat or low drops without dropping your hands or lunging. 2. Knob toward the ball as hips fire The real engine is explosive hip rotation — not arm-pushing. As your hips snap open, the knob naturally leads slightly toward the incoming pitch. It's a subtle, body-driven move that pulls the barrel into the zone early and on-plane, keeping everything tight and connected instead of casting wide. 3. Bent arms at contact — stay compact At the moment of impact, both arms (especially the lead one) should still have bend — think strong triangle shape with hands close to your body. Locked-out straight arms usually signal you're early, pushing weakly, or coming over the top. Bent arms keep you whippy, powerful, and barrel-deep in the zone for solid, line-drive contact. 4. Punch through to full extension Immediately after contact, drive those hands forward aggressively — like punching straight through the ball. This extends the arms fully out front, accelerates the barrel longer through the zone, and maximizes exit velocity while preventing early roll-over or cutoff. The result? More power, better direction, and barrels staying square longer.
