At a time when mental health policies nationwide are moving in a more humane direction, today’s announcement by the Mayor raises major concerns. My statement:

We learned so much from Michael Higgins Jr of @BKMovement about Downtown BK's place is Black History, broken promises from Downtown BK rezoning, & organizing efforts against gentrification.
We must honor District 33’s history to lead it into the future #BlackHistoryMonth

The policies brought forth in @NYCMayor's blueprint "are not as mayor Adams says, it's not about public health or about public health solutions it's really about expanding the power of the #NYPD. " -@AnthoninePierre, @BKMovement

Up first: All this hour, we'll talk about Mayor Adams' blueprint for combating gun violence with @AnthoninePierre, @AbornforDA & @CourtInnovation's Elise White about, and YOU. Here are some discussion questions to get us started. Reply with your thoughts!

1. Does the Blueprint as a whole make you feel like New York City will be more safe for you and your children if this is all implemented? Why or why not?
Brooklyn Movement Center retweeted
Did you #ReadTheBlueprint from @NYCMayor calling for #NYPD plainclothes units, #stopandfrisk & surveillance?
We did, and this morning at 10AM our spokesperson @AnthoninePierre speaks with @BrianLehrer about communities' responses to the plan. Listen at WNYC.org

We need targeted investments in violence prevention, including housing, mental health care, drug treatment and harm reduction services — not more Black and brown bodies in jail. Mr. Mayor, it is time to put the money where your mouth is. #ProtectBailReform

Bail reform has been a success in New York. We say to @NYCMayor today - instead of rolling back a successful policy, we need you to put more resources into the services that will make it an even bigger success. It's time to put the $ where your mouth is. - @TheRealLatriceW

This pic of Ramarley Graham's mom, Constance Malcolm, is from June 2020 when she helped plan and lead a march w/other families of NYers killed by police to demand major reductions in NYPD's bloated budget so $$ could be redirected to real safety infrastructure in communities.

Today is 10 YEARS since NYPD plainclothes cops killed Ramarley Graham in what should've been safety of his home.
He was just 18yo & they shot him in front of his 6yo brother & grandma. Then they "lost" his body for days. His parents had to beg electeds to help them find his body

Today we remember an 18y/o #RamarleyGraham, who was killed by #NYPD plainclothes officers in front of his grandmother & 6y/o brother. We say his name & stand with his family.
NYC must end failed policing practices that led to Ramarley's killing. #BlackLivesMatter #SayThierNames

Adams is trying to have it both ways. He wants SYEP but brings back the anti-crime unit. He must look for solutions that work for entire communities & not divide NYers into who deserve resources & who deserve incarceration. - @AnthoninePierre, @BKMovement ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/new…
