🚨 SOMALILAND | Drones feature in major military readiness exercise
The Republic of Somaliland’s armed forces are incorporating drones into HEEGAN 2026, a major military exercise involving tanks, artillery and armoured vehicles.
The drills, launched in Benderwanaag under army commander Brigadier General Nimcaan Yuusuf Gaaxnuug, aim to strengthen combat readiness and coordination across military units.
Footage shared alongside reports of Somaliland’s drone capabilities shows a fixed-wing unmanned aircraft flying overhead. Its model, origin and operational role remain unverified, and the clip alone does not establish the composition of Somaliland’s drone fleet.

🚨 BREAKING | #Somaliland launches “HEEGAN 2026,” its first annual military exercise.
Led by Brigadier General Nimcaan Yuusuf Gaaxnuug, the Somaliland National Army today began the large-scale exercise in Benderwanaag, Maroodi Jeex region.
Running over the coming weeks, the exercise will involve live-fire drills using tanks, artillery, armoured vehicles and drones to strengthen military readiness and coordination.
The army plans to hold the exercise annually.

In 1990, Israel’s then-ambassador to the UN, Yohanan Bein, sent a letter to the UN Security Council warning about the massacre committed by Somalia in the city of Hargeisa. Even when it was inconvenient and diplomatically costly, Israel chose what was right.
