Same two symbols, perunika and cross, carved in the walls of the wooden church of St Jeremiah, Goraždevac, Peć, Metohija, Old Serbia. The earliest mention of this church is from Žiča triptih written in early 13th c. The structure on this photo dates to 17th c. I have no idea if it is still there or was it one of many Serbian churches destroyed by Albanians since 1999. Perunika, the flower of Perun (Slavic thunder god), also known as thunder mark, water mark, witch mark all over Europe... I talk about this symbol, its link to thunder and witches in these articles oldeuropeanculture.blogspot.… oldeuropeanculture.blogspot.…
Welcome in 🙂 I love this old lady and I love her wooden gate. Somewhere in the Cluj region of Transylvania, Romania. Perunika, the flower of Perun (Slavic thunder god), also known as thunder mark, water mark, witch mark all over Europe, is carved at the bottom of the board to the left of the gate frame for the protection from thunder (and witches)... According to the "Basque Mythology", Eguzkilore protects the houses from adverse or negative elements of Nature, such as storms, lightning, evil in its many forms, diseases...and magicians and "witches"... Hmmmm. Just like "The Witch Mark" does... I talk about The Witch Mark, also known as Thunder Mark, and its link to transhumance shepherds in several of my posts... oldeuropeanculture.blogspot.… oldeuropeanculture.blogspot.…
Ahhh...This is so cool...Guess when the "Sun Flower" starts flowering in the Basque mountains? Around Summer Solstice, the end of Jun...It then goes on flowering between Jun and Sep... The transhumance ascent to the hight pastures in Basque mountains starts in May/Jun. The transhumance descent from the high pastures in Basque mountains ends in Sep/Oct... The flocks/herds are in on the high pastures for the duration of the Sun Flower flowering season... I would bet that the shepherds would watch these flowers, and when they started drying up, would pack up and start descending to the lowland pastures, bringing one of these Sun Flowers as talisman for good luck... Amazing thing...

A lot more coming out in the Sunday Times today about Liberty Recycling: "A complete failure of governance for a charity" "Investigators are examining whether there are multiple organised crime groups possibly involved, including Dublin drugs gangs, but also potentially Nigerian organisations." "A source said there was a suspicion that there had been a “high level of criminality through this charity, and there is also bit yet to go in terms of the investigation”. Once you know this, the rest is (relatively) easy to figure out. For instance, broom: This is Donderbezem (thunder broom), a protective symbol used in Holland and northern Germany as a protection from lightning strikes and evil spirits... That the fact that "thunder broom" is a broom is important, can be seen from the fact that sometimes actual brooms were hang under the roof as a protection from thunder... I couldn't find any explanation in Germanic mythology or folklore for why people would believe that a broom was able to protect their houses from thunder strike. I have to admit I didn't do a thorough search, so I could've missed some important info. Anyone knows? Traditionally, brooms are made from the twiggy growth of the birch tree... So I thought: could it be that the reason why broom was used as a protection against thunder strikes was because birch tree was believed to protect against thunder strikes? Again, I couldn't find anything in Germanic mythology or folklore about people believing that birch was able to protect their houses from thunder strike. I have to admit I didn't do a thorough search, so I could've missed some important info. Anyone here knows? But interestingly, Slavs believed that the birch, planted near the house, repels evil and protects from lightning...And even better, they believed that stuck under the roof of the house, birch branches (broom) protected the house from the lightning, storm, and hail... From my post Donderbezem oldeuropeanculture.blogspot.… Hence storm making witches riding on birch brooms...
To understand why witches rode on all these weird things you need to first understand that the main "Evil Magic" witches were accused of was weather magic used to cause cold, wet, stormy weather. Pic: Two witches conjuring a hailstorm. Did you know that the sudden climate change which resulted in the medieval mini ice age was blamed on the weather controlling witches and was the excuse for the subsequent witch-hunt? I talked about this here: oldeuropeanculture.blogspot.…

Halloween's is near, so let's take a spine-tingling journey to an October night in 1775. The smell of rotting vegetation and the loathsome howl of distant guard dogs fills our senses. Breath smokes before us in the frigid darkness. In the sky above wind parts the ragged clouds to reveal a sickly yellowish full moon. Suddenly, this eerie lunar light illuminates our surroundings, revealing a sprawling ancient graveyard. Crumbling headstones and leaning crosses cast jagged shadows in the pale moonlight. Twisted yew trees loom and ivy strangles graves, leaching their unspeakable nutrients. But I didn’t bring us here for the scenery. Roll up your sleeves, you’re about to raise the dead! This gruesome act of body snatching was a fact of life in Dublin for centuries. The church prohibited body donation, forcing surgeons, desperate to study anatomy, to pay unscrupulous “Resurrection Men” for fresh corpses. Despised for violating the dead, their trade demanded secrecy. Anyone unlucky enough to stumble upon them ended up as an extra in their haul. Luckily, I’ve bribed some shady characters to give us a demonstration. Our employer tonight, a professor from the Royal College of Surgeons, is frustrated the law only allows him to dissect 6 specimens a year, all executed criminals. So he looks to men like us to keep his slabs full and his apron bloody. We find our gang around the fresh grave of a local man. Adult cadavers fetch £2, a princely sum. In tough times corpses are sold by the inch, kids too. Infant mortality makes dead children far too common. Sometimes bodies are stolen to order, if a doctor wants to study a medical curiosity or a particularly beautiful deceased maiden. Graveyards like Bully’s Acre, St. Andrew’s and Kilgobbin are raided regularly to feed Dublin’s flourishing medical schools. The fear of loved ones being stolen was so widespread that Glasnevin Cemetery was built with watchtowers and bloodhound shelters. Huge slabs of rock and iron cages, called mortsafes, were added to frustrate thieves. Luckily for us, I’ve also paid off the sexton, who tips off Resurrectionists about new burials. So we shouldn’t be disturbed... The most infamous of all were Burke and Hare, Irishmen who plied their trade in 19th-century Edinburgh. These villains streamlined their work. Rather than digging up bodies, they murdered at least 16 people for Dr. Robert Knox. Heinous though it was, body snatching did advance medical science immeasurably. Now, under the ghostly light of a shaded lantern, the biggest one thrusts a short wooden spade into your hands and nods at the grave. You start digging. Soil thuds softly onto a dark sheet beside you. Soon comes that dull knock, wood on wood. They’ve hit the coffin. Two iron hooks tear open the lid with a crack that echoes through the cemetery. Leaning on a mausoleum, one man swigs poitín and tells us that medical students often dig up bodies themselves. Sometimes they’d disguise a coffin full of rocks as part of a fake funeral, drug the mourners with whiskey laced with laudanum, then swap coffins before fleeing. This trick was often pulled at The Cabbage Garden near Kevin Street. As if that weren’t ghoulish enough, when drugged mourners stirred, body snatchers sometimes redressed a corpse in fine clothes and dragged it home through the streets, pretending it was a drunk. “Weekend at Bernie’s style!” we joke. They stare blankly. With a groan they get back to work. The broken coffin releases a fetid gust. Moonlight reveals the waxy, translucent face of the dead man, teeth bared, eyes sunken, face frozen in a grotesque grimace. The rope slips around his neck, and with a sickening clack of jawbone the corpse rises, hauled from the earth like a monstrous catch. They strip the shroud and clothes, theyre property and could get them arrested for theft, then refill the grave. Alarmingly, they start whispering and measuring us up, greedy grins spreading. we make a polite but brisk exit back to the DTM.

That the Irish government is quite literally sneaking through legislative changes without proper public scrutiny and debate to remove the triple lock and end Ireland’s historic neutrality should tell you they have absolutely no public mandate to do so.

A 10 year old girl in State care. Charges dropped. No reason given. I respect the independence of the DPP. But independence cannot mean silence. The law gives victims the right to ask why a case was dropped and to seek a review. This child is in the care of the State. Tusla should be asking those questions for her, and it has only weeks to do it. And there is a simple question for the Department of Justice. A deportation order was reported to have been in place since May 2025. Why was it not enforced? People are entitled to answers.

❇️Let me be crystal clear❇️ 🔹I strongly believe that @HMcEntee should resign. 🔹By her actions & her inaction, she has caused so much harm to protected disclosure makers, who like me have called out wrongdoing. 🔹I think of @NoelMcgree, John Barrett and @WhistleIRL in particular. All @BlowersIreland would support a swift resignation. 🔹Handing the criminal offenders a free pass to continue to threaten, penalise & retaliate against whistleblowers simply should not be survivable as a former Minister for Justice. 🔹But it seems to me that this is the very reason why she has survived. 🔹@HMcEntee received her orders & she followed them. 🔹The question is - from whom? 🔹Her officials wrote stating they could “not provide legal” advice when notified of veiled threats against me. 🔹Read that evidence of inaction & signalling again. 🔹Now, let us look to Mr Justice Senan Allen - a sitting Court of Appeal judge. 🔹Allen KNOWINGLY breached my identity in a fabricated Parliamentary report published in September 2015. ‼️Referring to me in his report as‼️ 🔹female; 🔹a trained lawyer; and 🔹a qualified solicitor, made me immediately identifiable as one of four female experts & the ‼️ONLY lawyer‼️ 🔹A well respected & senior colleague had (by that point) resigned in solidarity with me. We had been investigating the role of @centralbank_ie 🔹Allen refused to interview that person who was vocal about sharing my concerns. 🔹Within weeks, certain of my disclosures were substantiated, but Allen refused to come forward. 🔹But having been made readily identifiable in a very small banking / finance / legal arena, this led to my being encouraged by lawyers (I had been given reason to trust) to leave Ireland as I would “not be employable”. 🔹I followed this advice & at the age of 47, went to London with my minor child. This was profoundly destabilising. 🔹But it served the State’s desired purpose. 🔹I would be absent & largely unaware of the continued slaughtering of SMEs in Ireland at the hands of British banks - the fraudulent use of swaps & derivatives to repair impaired balance sheets. My specific area of expertise. See my pinned post. 🔹I remind you that I had raised disclosures about the Central Bank of Ireland & the conduct of the Inquiry generally. My report ran to 86 pages (not 72 as I earlier mentioned in error). 🔹I initiated legal proceedings with “assistance” of the same team who had encouraged me to leave Ireland. The proceedings were beset with delay after delay after delay. 🔹Despite my having evidence that my disclosures were correct & much later that I had inadvertently become involved in one of Ireland’s largest ever financial, legal & judicial scandals - the message was that I could be looked after if I abandoned my challenge to the Senan Allen Report. 🔹Not knowing that I was a pawn in a deeply sinister game, I refused and made it clear in writing that I would not enter mediation without a commitment that the fabricated Allen Report would be addressed. 🔹I was told that 14 people were in attendance at the mediation for the State. 🔹Was this true? I don’t know. 🔹Was this said to intimidate me? Perhaps, but the identities of all 14 people were willingly shielded by the mediator. 🔹This is a taxpayer funded legal team benefiting from their identities being shielded. 🔹I have gone on too long for now. In the past few weeks, I learned that my counsel had been acting for the Central Bank, while representing me. 🔹While I was being asked to abandon my challenge to an official parliamentary report - in the form of a vicious & fabricated personal attack against me - my own counsel was simultaneously earning legal fees from the Central Bank. 🔹Is that someone welcomed in the Irish legal profession? I believe it is. Need I say more. Please share. @Wftproof @kenoflynnTD @JMcGuinnessTD @PearseDoherty @MaryLouMcDonald @MichealMartinTD @stevemiddi1 @JohnEdwardLee

Det. Supt O'Reilly, who had previously overseen the Garda Technical Bureau, also maintains that Ms McEntee had no legal authority to send his protected disclosure to An Garda Sóochána. The minister had referred the disclosure to the Office of the Protected Disclosures Commissioner which then appointed the secretary general of the Department of Justice to investigate it, as per the law. According to Det Supt O’Reilly, the minister then “inappropriately interfered with my protected disclosure by removing it from a person appointed under statute and by directing my protected disclosure to Drew Harris even though the former commissioner was directly impugned in it". #Garda #Whistleblower #ProtectiveDisclosures

There's a magical island off the Irish coast that inspired the myth of Atlantis, but it only appears on certain days of the year. Well, according to ancient folklore anyway. It's called "Hy-Brasil" and it's said to lie far out in the Atlantic off the wild west coast. For centuries it even appearing on maps. The unusual name Hy-Brasil comes from Uí Bhreasail, meaning “descendants of Bresal,” an ancient Irish clan name. Some scholars connect it to the Old Irish word bres, meaning “noble” or “fortunate” which fits its reputation as the Island of the Blessed. There's obviously some crossover with that other mythic realm Tír na nÓg, the “Land of Eternal Youth”. It's a place where mortals might cross into the Otherworld. The fact it was on sea charts and maps made this paradise all the more tantalising. But there was a catch. Hy-Brasil was said to be shrouded in mist, visible only once every seven years. Even then, it could slip away, sometimes even sinking or floating into the air (!) just as sailors thought they had reached it. When described, it was often a place of extraordinary beauty with an abundance of pleasure and wealth on offer. Sometimes home to a wise old man who imparted secret knowledge to those lucky enough to land there. That last particular promise of secret wisdom would prove profitable for conmen and false profits peddling information to the guililble and the desperate that they'd either heard second hand or actually gained in person from a visit there. So where exactly was this heavenly holiday resort? Well, unlike many purely mythical lands, Hy-Brasil enjoyed a strange legitimacy because cartographers occasionally recorded a location. The 1325 Dulcert map shows it as a perfect circle, divided by a central channel. Circlular island bisected are also associated with the myths of Atlantis. The 1373 Pizzigano map and others of the 14th–17th centuries placed it west of Ireland, sometimes moving it further into the Atlantic as cartographers updated their charts.More than one expedition even set out in search of it during the Age of Exploration. Sightings of Hy-Brasil persisted for centuries. The most famous came in 1674, when Captain John Nisbet claimed to have landed on the island, met a mysterious wise man, and returned with gold and silver. Even into the 19th century, mariners reported glimpses of strange landmasses west of Galway Bay. Some modern historians suspect these might have been sightings of Porcupine Bank, a now submerged shoal roughly 200 km west of Ireland, which would sometimes appear just above water in the right conditions. Others suggest mirages or Fata Morgana illusions tricked sailors into seeing phantom lands. Basically Hy-Brasil, like most human heavens, speaks more about the desires and fears of the dreamer than it does about what actual Paradise should be. As such, it was a mirror to the Irish folk psyche. And as important as the promise of that place was how illusive the destination was. Emerging only after ages and only epheremally, likely to disapear over the horizon faster than you can desperately swim to its shores.

No one else see the irony here? Irish Govt sending €700mil to Ukraine, who blow up oil tankers & refineries. While also charging carbon taxes on its own citizens.
BREAKING: Ukraine has just struck an oil tanker, which is now burning off the coast of Sochi in Russia's Krasnodar region, with a massive fire and a black smoke column rising several kilometres.

Mounting pressure on McEntee to face Dáil questions over whistleblower leak. ✍️@JohnEdwardLee MINISTER Helen McEntee directed An Garda Síochána to investigate a protected disclosure because it did not meet the high threshold required for external investigation of the Garda Commissioner - based only on bullet-pointed summaries of the allegations. Neither the minister nor her officials sought any further information or corroborative evidence from the whistleblower before deciding that gardai should investigate themselves. @IrishMailSunday #Whistleblowers #HelenMcEntee #ProtectiveDisclosures #DrewHarris #Leak
